As an old school B Boy and a lover of music and the musicians represented here, I have never trusted and felt that there was something foul about Simmons. I think this feeling really started when he abandoned Slick Rick in Prison and in an interview I saw him And Slick Rick he was talking down To Slick Rick and I was like What is wrong with this man. Even in the movie Krush Groove he seemed like a snake. It really seems like all CEO of music and entertainment are Slime balls and have no inherent talent but sponge the life out others that do..........Prince and MJ were treated like this and many others..........

B-Boy Indeed. Lol. Back in the days I used to do shows and my parents knew very little about my creations. Word-of-mouth got me into a play downtown and my character was a Rapper and I was able to spit my own lines into the play script. After the show I was standing on the sidewalk with my Boom Box waiting for my mom to pick me up and a lady approached and asked me do I know of Russell Simmons? I told her I never heard of him and to her surprise. She then asked me for my phone number. She said she knew him personally and could help get in contact. So I gave her my number and paid it no mind. Just a few weeks later the phone rings and my dad answers the phone, he listens and ask a few questions, then all of a sudden I hear my dad say to the person in a Stern voice to the person on the other end of the phone " he is in school and he doesn't have time for that mess". I ask my dad who was that and what did they want?.. he replied, "it was somebody from Def Jam taking about some Rap music" 😂 And that was that. My dad immediately went back to watching his television program and could care less. He despised Rap. That's how most parents felt about Hip Hop back in our B-Boy days ❤✌🏽

This is a tough one. 13 women is a lot. At the same time, it makes one wonder if after the first woman tells her story whether or not you now have a snowball effect of others who crossed paths with him at one time, now seeing it as a way to cash in or something? That was my first thought after growing up seeing "uncle rush" on Run's house and being a big hip hop fan (so I'm def biased, mos def bias). Also, he was the CEO of Def Jam and a household name, that's a big target for an opportunist. As I was typing this though, my gut is now telling me there's something here. I'm a dude, have worked In the business world/office setting with a lot of money being made and while most guys are harmless, there are definitely more creeps than we (as non creepy guys), might ever realize. Because this behavior seems unthinkingable to us and we don't often see it first hand, I think there is a gut reaction to thinking "naw, that guy would never do something like that, he's cool!" He might be cool around other guys but most of these creeps are completely different when they're 1-on-1 with women and no one is around. Basically, I guess I'm saying, we don't see what these guys are like because we are not the target. If you really get to know a handful of attractive women who work in these settings and they're honest with you, the shit you will hear is pretty bonkers, it's much more common than we understand as non-creepy dudes. We had a dude at our office pull out his wang in front of a co-worker during biz hours and I'd bet big money she didn't make it up. We alll worked with the guy for 10 years, never would have guessed it. No idea why I'm spending time typing this out but bottom line for me: when there there's a lot of smoke, there's usually at least a little fire.

It's never just one accuser. As soon as one does a money grab, the gold diggers come out in droves. The media cleverly hides how most of the women who accused Cosby of sexual assault had bogus stories. Interestingly, for someone accused of murdering his own wife, OJ Simpson has never been accused of sexual assault, is quite odd.

It's really hard to tell if someone is guilty of these allegations. I don't want to victim blame, but I'm also not stupid, and I know there's disgusting people on both sides of these types of allegations. It's extremely strange when someone doesn't tell anyone at all, until 20-30 years later. You would think they would tell someone throughout that time. The bottom line is evidence. Words should never be enough. In my opinion, I feel like some of the people claiming to be victims, weren't victims, and did things that they're not proud of, like performing sexual favors to get privileges. That's not rape or sexual misconduct. That's just someone who's trying to cheat their way to the top. Maybe when they realize that they did disgusting things to get to where they're at, and aren't as satisfied as they thought they would be, they want to take their responsibilities off of the table, and place blame on someone else for their own actions. Even if he's guilty, I don't think they could prove anything at this point. I'm not saying that I support a sex offender getting away with doing these things, but I don't want to take the word of someone, and condemn an innocent person either. The public shame is already too much, if the persons innocent. The entertainment industry is full of evil people, who would slit their own mothers throat, to get a step up. It's extremely hard to tell what someones motive is, when they make these accusations. It's extremely hard to believe someone that decides to come out and expose someone 30 years after the fact. At the time that Weinstein and Cosby were being exposed, there was more reasons than justice, to come out as a victim of a rich successful man at that time. You got exposure, sympathy, and a chance to get some money, and maybe even revenge for something other than the sexual assault allegations.
@dfxstudios11 ай бұрын
Yeah I can see it from both sides of the coin. It’s tough considering you’re already guilty by court of public opinion before anything is even proven. Not to mention if Simmons is indeed innocent there’s no real consequences put in place for people making false accusations. So already there’s an incentive to acuse as it’s all reward and no risk. But considering it was so long ago there needs to be some sort of statute of limitations on accusations like this. But I also want justice for those who are really victims and are being accused of lying. There’s a lot to unpack.

I can try and explain why some never tell for years. I myself was SA'd by someone very close to my family, I never told because I was embarrassed, even though this person was 17 years older than me as I was only 12, Abuse messes with your head. I spent 10 years in therapy as a result. The incident took place in summer and till this day I would rather remain indoors because of something that happened as a child. So, I believe people because it happened to me, and I know plenty of other women too. @@nishamack586 Being a kid isn't the same. I had something happen to me when I was 4-5, and I didn't tell anyone until I was 15. Being an adult is far different. If I had the mental maturity to realize that I had nothing to be embarrassed about at 15, then I see no reason that an adult couldn't be able to say anything. The main reason that I was too embarrassed to tell, is because I'm male, and I got molested by my gay babysitter. It's the worst burden that I've ever faced. It took me from being a good kid, that was excited to start school, to not caring about school, and being a mean kid. My parents seen the change in me, and took me to a therapist, but I was too embarrassed to tell anyone about what happened. There's times that I remember crying myself to sleep. So I get why immature kids can't process something as serious as this, but I don't understand why adults can't find at least a single person. That's suspicious to me.

Yeah it’s dark AF but I’ve been in the industry years-and women, children and teens get abused hardcore. SAbusers are rampant from people in power. The industry doesn’t have to cook up stories, that’s the press’ job. The industry is more involved in hiding the stories, as they need to keep bad publicity away from thier financial investments. If abuse goes on too long, it eventually finds its way to the light, because people are now speaking up and standing up for themselves. Karma is a bitch, and abuses are getting thiers.

Unless someone went through rape or sexual assault it would be hard to understand the healing process on mental, physical and emotional toll it takes on someone who suffered it [regardless of gender]. There are many reasons a victim may not come forward - ranging from emotional trauma and fear of authority, to a lack of clarity over what constitutes sexual assault and rape. Sometimes going through that process is very cathartic, full of emotional, physical and mental and internal processes to heal a serious offense against own’s personal. And especially when it comes to report people with power in a society which very clearly demonstrate that there are two systems of justice, one for the wealthy and powerful and another for the rest of us. Generally speaking our society tends to blame victims. Self doubt, self blame and growing fears about disclosing something so deeply disturbing and personal is not easy; there’s a lot of pointing fingers, blame and guilt by doubt created in a society that keep place more doubt on victims than perpetrators/abusers. Even for those who do come forward, taking action against an alleged assailant is not easy. Going through the system of reporting is living the assault or rape once again when a victim just want to erased the injury or leaving it behind forever. Thus, many have honest uniformed and are clueless, even those with honest questions about the lingering time and reporting processes tend to misconstrue, create doubt and be in the doubting side of the spectrum in this awful personal experience within the context of broader understanding in this issue. Sexual violence and rape is deeply personal, and forced by someone to do something against your own will should not be something for any victim to be ashamed of reporting and get help and justice, but processes in our society made it that way through belief systems, justice systems and norms to follow. There is always unknown things but do not become another negligent and ignorant person about it, just ask and get educated about it.

This is definitely a tough place to be in. As mentioned from others, 1. why wait 40 years to reveal such a terrible event, 2. Don’t put yourself in any situation where an accusation can be made like this, never get caught privately with another unless it’s consensual , use a body cam for all interactions, get the consent before any intimacy either in writing or on camera. You can’t be too carefully in these times.

You've answered your own question why people wait or never report these crimes. Forty years ago, several states hadn't even got around to passing legislation making marital rape a crime. It was tried as rape but many people's attitude felt that what happened between a man and his wife was their (or the husband's) business. Also, a woman's past relationships and sexual history (not just any possible history of prior accusations of assault or rape) could be used against her to imply she had loose morals and so was asking for it. Actually, not a lot has changed.
