I don't even think it's a hostile takeover. Everybody involved is staying schtum to protect the fragile feelings of those involved. Russell is kissing Chibnall's ass. RTD and Moffat have both included references to Jodie's Doctor in their post-show writings and they both seem well on board. While I think we'll get a salvage job and perhaps a rerailing of character in terms of personal morality, I don't think they're going to ever get rid of the Timeless Child or Jodie's era. Now RTD could probably half polish that turd and at the very least make the nonsense make a little sense, but you're fighting an uphill battle if you do. Fixing the show now will be harder than bringing it back in 2005. People used to have nostalgia and good memories, maybe a general sense of "oh that silly thing" and were ready for fresh Who. Now we've had a decade plus of the show where all the good will was destroyed in a boring 20 min exposition dump and a barrage of interviews from insulting actors and writers whose ego and incompetence outweigh their ability to act and write. Basically Russell has to rebuild the show's reputation from a place of anger, mistrust, boredom and apathy from a lot of people. People are going to be far more critical of Zombie Russell than they were on his first go round and he can't expect to just coast like Chibs'.

Honestly, purely in-universe, I hate the idea of tennant coming back as a future doctor. I love his era as much as the next guy, but the end of it made him regenerate into himself, "whine" (for lack of a better word) about regenerating multiple times ("I don't wanna go", "Even if I change it still feels like dying [...]"), and it would feel like the doctor went back on character progression and became less mature. But I am perfectly fine with the 10th doctor (And I mean *10th,* not just the face/personality) coming back for a special or maybe even a season. Frankly, a multi-doctor season is an interesting concept, not sure about the execution or in-universe implications it'd have though.

RTD left when he still had a lot to say. His last season was his best season, unlike Moffat who got worse and worse with every season. So I believe that he still has a lot to say in DW and he had 10+ years to come up with some ideas.

Only other time i can think of a previous showrunner returning is the upcoming season of Dexter. Clyde Phillips left at the end of season 4. Then Scott Buck made it progressively worse and gave it one of the worst endings in tv history. Now Clyde Phillips is back. It's weird that the timing is so close, can't think of another time it's happened. But probably has. (EDIT) Dan Harmon returned to Community, but that was a different situation since he was actually fired and brought back. But season 4 of Community does feel a lot like the Chibnall era to me. On the surface it's the same show, but the substance and spark of originality was gone.

True, but he was merely an executive producer for that season, which isn’t quite as significant as an entire show runner returning.

You gents are So polite! I love that! However Chibnall hired a Doctor who famously did NO homework about the role, he hired writers with zero sci-fi experience, and Chibnall AND Whittaker were BOTH snobby and superior... The woman Doctor was a BAD idea from the get-go. This is a science fiction show...not a class on gender studies and that whole idea is shit. I feel NO sympathy for Chibnall OR Whittaker. They destroyed the entire cannon of the show and we're total assholes about it. How about some fun stories, good writing and a Doctor who isn't crap? RTD stands ready to restore my faith.

It kinda blows my mind that people assume going back in time to ANY time in history other than the last 40 years would be an issue for a non white character. Like, human history is 10s of thousands of years and racism has only really existed since the 17th century.

I don't like the idea of bringing back previous Doctors for specials. That would then just give the impression you have zero faith in what you're doing. Especially when Big Finish is doing that already. The show should constantly moving forward and I'm excited for Davies coming back but that doesn't mean make specials with Tennant in the spotlight. Focus on the current Doctor and their era. I'd be interested to see Alexander Siddig in the role though.

As someone who only recently rediscovered RTD era and realised how much it still holds up, this news had me incredibly excited. I started watching the series as a kid when the revival began, and my interest went from dwindling to completely gone over the course of seasons 7 through 12. This is the first time I've felt excited about Doctor Who in nearly 10 years, so regardless of what RTD brings to the table, as long as BBC backs off and gives him enough creative control, I'm here for it.

This is a very strange video because half of it is well reasoned and agreeable points and then theyll hit you with the 'I love the slitheen' and you think huh are these guys taking the piss?
@JackWolf1010 ай бұрын
Keep in mind we were both 6 when Series 1 aired, so we're going to have a soft spot for those episodes! I will argue that, whilst they stray into "silly" territory with the farting, I think the Slitheen have been one of the few 'iconic' New Who monsters. Their design is incredibly recognisable, and the unzipping of the forehead is a memorable monster moment.

No, no, Chibnall’s biggest failing is this: he can write (and write well) when it is one story over a long arc (Flux - somewhat - Broadchurch, Torchwood: Children of Earth) and having to cram it all down into separate 50 minute episodes… Chibnall cannot do it.

I hope we get David Orr to compose, he can do the orchestral bombast that I think Doctor Who needs. Don't get me wrong Segun Akinola is a talented person, doing something that I'd have no idea where to start on, but his style doesn't suit Doctor Who at all for me. It would be perfect for something like the sad bits in a Tron series or a Steven King film. Also, Dominic West for the Doctor please. Not for 14, as if we get a white male for 14 then that makes it look like the sexists online won. Tilda Swinton would be nice, but she's too famous.
@TheSmart-CasualGamer2 жыл бұрын
@404 TVAgain, I do like Akinola's music. It does work for me, but it just doesn't work for Doctor Who. It's subdued. Doctor Who, in my opinion, shouldn't be subdued. If it helps, it's not like I want Gold to come back. No idea why I did then, his time on the show is done, I agree.
