I’d bet my life, with confidence, that this dude will never win a ring. No matter what team he plays on. Every game he plays, you can point to several plays just like these. He plays losing basketball. His only chance for any personal success is when he’s the number 1 guy on a team and is surrounded by a bunch of role players that play hard. They wont be good or win anything. But he can go 13-45 from the field, let other people do all the dirty work, and get his 29 pts, 10 assists and 9 rebounds each night. But he can’t fit into any actual system. He’s the most inefficient player ever, possibly. He can’t play off the ball. He’s a horrible shooter. He’s non-existent on defense, and he makes horrible decisions and plays recklessly. His only chance is if he ends up on a team like the Knicks or Magic. Somewhere where he can go crazy with those empty calorie stats and end up with a 41-41 record and a first round playoff exit.

More than a lack of effort, there's also a big lack of defensive fundamentals in Russell Westbrook. Far too often he doesn't want to play defense, but it's somehow almost worst when he tries to. He doesn't know how to read switches, or helps, always late on those. He can't close out properly, his footwork is atrocious, giving hismself no chance of staying in front of his man and man, for a guy so focused on rebounding, he's never boxing out either. 1st example; Anthony Davis IS NOT A VOCAL LEADER!!! He should've informed Westbrook of the switch!!! 2nd example; Can't really tell if that's Carmelo Anthony's original man. Once again...no communication to switch! 3rd example: Clearly trying to read the pick and roll. LeBron James is signaling to the open spot of the floor but failed to apply pressure with with Westbrook by trapping James Harden. Once again... miscommunication! 4th example; Seems like there were discussions in the film room to apply pressure to the ball handler in a half court trap. The ball is leading with the left hand...Westbrook's signal to apply the trap. Reaves assumes the opposite a and comes to trap ball handler from the opposite side. Someone yells to signal the defensive scheme is not being performed properly which alerts the ball handler of the scheme so he baits the trap and passes to the wing. Here's my issue...the shot attempt was missed...there were 2 Lakers under the basket. Neither one recovered the rebound...even when the opposing team was being blocked out! Anthony Davis didn't hustle for the rebound!!! 5th example;
