Maybe it has more to do with the fact that there is a general consensus amongst key players in the region that peace and stability is crucial for future growth.

I don't think it's fair to say these cultures aren't used to democracy - perhaps if a racist American empire didn't have a history of overthrowing democratically elected governments this region might be faring better?
@kenschortgenjr7540Ай бұрын
Democracy is a purely Western concept... first derived in Greece of course. It was NEVER something affiliated with 99% of the ancient world, nor most civilizations prior to the advent of the Magna Carta, the French Revolution, and the US Republic.

Not only that; why did Athens put Socrates to death? For "corrupting the youth" -- but what did he actually do?? He taught that *democracy is impossible* because it logically will always devolve into oligarchy which will logically lead to aristocracy again...!

To traffic arms across Syria into Lebanon should not be to difficult. The mercenaries in charge in Syria would probably happily take a little bribe to let arms pass.

One small correction. China is not used to imperialism because China finished constructing it's nationhood and national identity when the first emperor unified China 2000 years ago, and the Han Dynasty solidified that nation with its vast bureaucracy. China is used to its hybrid centralized-decentralized, not authoritarianism as imagined by the west, and certainly not imperialism. If anything, the Chinese are very inward and insular people.
@kenschortgenjr7540Ай бұрын
By Imperialism I mean the people are ingrained to live under a central authority. They don't CHOOSE their govt., they expect that central authority to provide the means for security etc... Russians want/demand a Strong Man to lead them, and will put up with alot if that leader provides said security. The West, based on different levels of Democracy or Constitutional govt., has peoples who choose their own govt. models with the intention that they will change it constantly to serve their needs.

Useful fact-based comment apart from the last statement. “Inward” looking people do not journey thousands of miles under arduous conditions to understand discover the roots of other peoples’ beliefs (Buddhism). Nor do they build vast trading routes to explore commerce with other people (Silk Road). Nor does their language, culture and philosophy become the paradigm for their neighbors (Tang dynasty).

@@CptNemo-l3s Is an Emperor or King etc... considered Imperial? Yup. And that is the long standing history of Chinese culture, carried forward to today where a single political party rules from a central authority.

@@kenschortgenjr7540 Imperialism is a mode of foreign policy i.e power projection. What you're describing is an imperial governmental system within a state i.e. a monarchy.

An interesting discussion on the situation in Syria, including touching on BRICS countries as well as Syria as a "country" is a historically recent development. I understand the borders were drawn by British/French. I have been wondering if the Big Boys of BRICS (Russia, China & India) have been viewing Hamas & Hezbollah as a cancer on making BRICS more viable. If Trump does order US out of Syria, & Iraq we can be looking at the major powers leaving the region to the people of the region. Maybe Trump administration negotiates with BRICS, and in Yemen the Houthis are told by BRICS to cease basically blocking the Red Sea.

The united states has openly talked about trying to overextend Russia, and in turn make its Government collapse. The staging grounds would be Ukraine, Georgia, Syria, Chechnya etc. Russia is a military power but i cannot afford to fight in Ukraine and Syria simultaneously and Russia recognized that. This is the strategic trap.
