Franco-American restaurants have been getting lambasted for serving poutine... a traditional Quebecois favorite. People think its somehow named for Putin who wasn't even born when the dish was created. Oh, we've also been boycotting "Russian" vodka... at the cost of jobs in Latvia and the US because it "sounds" Russian and therefore must be Russian but in reality, its not. They're just piggybacking off the steroid type that Russian vodka is superior vodka (it often isn't).

To be fair Poland is similar to Ukraine (historically, culturally and religiously) and the Ukrainian refugees are temporary, lastly they are direct neighbours. So not requiring visa for Ukrainians going to Poland makes sense. But in the bottom slide it shows countries that are very different from poland (in all categories). Also, they aren't neighbouring countries, and those countries are not going going through a war. So it makes sense to require visa from them.
@audiolatroushearetic1822

Yes, but most of them were exchange students or foreignerers with a residency status in Ukraine. They have no opportunity to apply for a visa right now and couldn't leave the country otherwise. To hold them back at the border without shelter is simply a violation of human rights and segregation based on ethnicity.

11:20 Also, I think Drew missed part of the joke here about the Great Northern War. Russia and its allies were the aggressors, as they had all wanted Swedish lands for various reasons. They decided to attack because the Swedish King had died and his successor (Charles XII) was barely a teenager by that point. The nation underwent a 7-month regency until Charles turned 15 and became legally eligible to assume the role of Monarch. Combining this with the fact that Sweden was unaligned and that there was a "small scale conflict" going on in Western Europe called the War of the Spanish Succession, nobody would have been willing or able to come to Sweden's aid militarily or diplomatically. In all, an unaligned empire, a 15 year old king stepping in to take control of a nation as the last surviving member of his bloodline, and 2 voracious neighbors in Denmark-Norway and Poland-Lithuania, caused Russia to seize the moment to forge a triple alliance and invade Sweden.

I just wanna say that as a russian, most of regular russian think that war is stupid. But we, as a regular people, can't do much tho. @oleh_lunin
@oleh_lunin 2 жыл бұрын
It's quite sad that it is this way. Ukraine managed to actually pull it off, but it was an internal matter at the time, so I guess the sense of urgency forced people to act more radically, so they employed molotov cocktails and various melee weapons (self-made shields, chains etc) against the police force. I understand the reluctance of Russian protesters for doing so, as it appears that the police force in Russia is far more numerous, but hopefully there will be some kind of rallying cry in the future to unite the people, so that they could stand strong against the regime. I mean, the war might end, but it is the aggressive imperialistic ideology that has to die (otherwise there will just be more wars). Only the people, through votes and force, if necessary, can make it happen. So I hope that you stay strong too. And please keep informed, it's the most important thing in the current situation.

It sucks. I don't think the world has anything against Russians as individuals but the people need to rise up against the tyrannical, steroid-raging Putin and his cronies. Government for the people, by the people. It's the foundation of democracy and what Ukraine is fighting so valiantly for. The Russian people need to demand democracy. It is on the Russian people to reform their government. How they do it, if they're willing to follow their moral compass, only time will tell. Some countries have done it peacefully... the vast majority haven't been so lucky. Your "leader" is shelling apartment complexes, hospitals, etc. He is targeting civilians. This is not a policing action or even a war... It is a human rights atrocity and a living nightmare. And lets not forget your oligarchs who rob you blind as a country and then lie to your "leader" about it. If they weren't robbing your government blind to buy superyachts and mega jets, Russia could import the food it needs, invest its infrastructure instead of thinking invading Ukraine is the easiest way to get grain. What you can do is stay informed and fight the Russian propaganda machine. Word of mouth is powerful. Social media is powerful. Social media is why sanctions were so swift and so harsh.

Haha. The blitzkrieg tactic actually relies heavily on good logistics. It's just that all the times it was used by the germans, they ended up advancing so quickly that their logistic train always fell way behind (same for the supporting troop regiments as well). The only difference between then and now is that the enemies of Germany were either too incompetent or otherwise preoccupied to take advantage of this fact. In the case of the current war, this is not the case as the opposition has no other enemies and is, quite frankly, only fighting on one front (not to mention arming its civilian population). If a western nation were to attack it from the west and force it to fight on two fronts, however, then you'd see just how effective charging in a straight line with tanks can be 😅😅😅😅

@@aysenur6761 could you remind me since when Poland borders Syria? I agree Syrian people have been living through very difficult times recently. However, there is a handful of countries between Syria and Poland where Syrians could claim being a refugee. And the most important part - the Syrians were coming to Belarus with tourist visas of Belarus. Under what circumstances could they be considered refugees on Polish border? I’m perfectly aware they were used by Lukashenko (and Putin by extension) and yes, they were exploited in that situation but letting them in would only make Belarus & Russia send more. @@rabomarc I don't think that we are responsible for the urgently needy people only from the neighbouring countries. Most of the world is claiming solidarity with Ukranian people right now and a lot of the countries are very eager to accept them as refugees (which they should not bc they are from a particular nation but bc they are fleeing from being bombarded). Also, I don't think that the Syrians have that many handful of choices. We all know that Eastern Europe is not the most immigrant friendly place on earth. Im not gonna mention the names but many politicians always frankly state that they don't give a flying f about the Middle Eastern refugees. There is Turkey that has almost 4 million of them and it's not easy to go further into Europe while Greece over there throwing people in the Aegean Sea. You may be right about the tourist visa thing tho. I can't say anything maybe except that those people are not in a condition to be responsible for some evil governments' actions...
