Other youtubers who report on the Ukraine war made a big deal today of the Ukraine offensive in Kursk today, but you seem to think it was what Americans call a dud and what the Brits call a wet squib. It doesn't seem even to be an offensive. It appears to be nothing more than a company-sized operation, and a not very successful one as it was beaten back after a few hours. It may be a feint, a distraction before an offensive elsewhere, but with the Ukrainian army severely attritted in the east and in Kursk, it's not clear whether it can mount any kind of offensive at this point.

"Down south" Russians control several fortifications, either made by themselves or captured from the enemy. As Trump is coming, the only answer from Zelensky is to create something positive to be aired in the news, this way there's a possibility that France may join the war on their side, as their president already hinted out something in that sense, but public opinion is a hurdle.

The French said that they may send soldiers to aid them, but for that to happen (how unlikely that is), the bare minimum is that public opinion feel that the U team is winning.

Kurakhove being taken was just a little bit of DPA narrative, but reports are 12 thousand Ukr lost their lives there with massive in place fortifications. The time spent on discussing it does not in any way represent the efforts on the ground that were put into that area. Not trying to be disparaging but it highlights that reporting doesn't reflect the level and importance of what happened there operationally.

Ukraine is fighting fantastically, it's just incredible how it holds up against a much more powerful opponent. After this war, the Russian army will need decades to recover from such great human and technical losses. History seems to be repeating itself. Let's say it took Imperial Russia a decade to recover from the Crimean War of 1853-56, just like in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904/05, it took a decade to return to pre-conflict conditions, especially in the navy. Imperial rulers and autocrats simply do not know how to wage wars and are surrounded by sycophants and incompetents. Whether they were Tsars Nicholas the First, Alexander the Second, Nicholas the Second or Putin. Philosopher George Santayana said well, he who does not learn from history is doomed to repeat it.

Or how Russia as Soviet Union "needed to recover" from the losses in WW2 - irony off. Russia fisted entire Nazi Germany and its allies so much that the Americans and Brits jumped into the battle in Normandy in order not to loose entire Europe to the communists. Don't get me wrong pal. For sure Russia will not pop out as a new super power, but it won't be like you stated above for sure. What's for sure is that Ukraine will suffer for the next couple of decades, regardless of the conflicts result. Ukraine is bankrupt, people gone, industry destroyed etc. If Ukraine would loose the black sea coast, Ukraine would be definitely gone into the bucket of barmy states like Suriname or Mali - Nobody gives a sh and nobody wants to live there!
