On the first day I though this may be a legit reignitiion of the conflict, but 3 days in it was quite obvious an arranged transfer of power with some rather superficial hostilities. The Soviet era alliance was likely deemed a needless liability, given the volatile regional situation. Now Russia can dial back its engagement, and let its enemies waste resources on supporting their faction, while they themselves focus on Ukraine, which was likely sold out as part of the deal. And in the likely chance they keep their bases, they can wait out and estimate the final outcome before committing any support to any side to collect spoils, if any. For now they don't need much equipment, or risk engagement with factions, eager to obtain equipment. It is probably not much to begin with, but will be a welcome addition to the battle that really counts.

Mimd China had our secure apps build in backdoor opened and thus free access to a lot we mistook for secure communications past two years. Maybe we do not understand this checkmove (yet). Man, it is just getting worse and worse. Hopefully you'll keep regularly posting new content so I can skip watching them. If you could keep the same time so it is predictable when you are going to post new content, then it would almost completely outcompete competition. my apologies Commander, but what do you mean "Russia knew"? 1) the offensive out of the Idlib Governate? I would guess so.. Russia and Turkey had ultimately shared administrative/security duties for the Idlib Governate since 2017, since it acted as a sort of buffer between regime controlled territory and the territory controlled by the Turkish-backed FSA..meaning settling of differences between these three parties by necessity fell to Putin and Erdogan.. also contrary to the established narrative there had been DAILY clashes between Assad and Russian forces and the HTS for at least 3 to 4 months according to the ualivemap, as well as heavy shelling.. interestingly the activity over this entire period is concentrated at/along the exact crossings the later HTS operation would use.. even more curious, after the fighting remained static for months the beginning of HTS forward operations breaking through and rapidly advancing falls on November 29th.. the day Assad returned from his visit to Moscow.. and since then found documents and protocolls of the Syrian Army have shown that an operation out of the Idlib Governate was expected to occur since some time around March 2024.. 2) the crisis of the Syrian Army, the issue of support from Iran and Hezbolla and that Assad may would have to resign? I would guess so.. the question is what the nature of this crisis was, why it starts with Assad returning from Moscow and how any crisis would be so permeating through the ranks as to allow an offensive beginning on November 29th to reach Damascus on December 8th only 6 hours after entering Homs.. the information available describes a sudden unexpected mass withdrawl of the Syrian Army beginning on Nov 29th.. until it basically vanishes into thin air in the six hours it took HTS to conquer Homs and Damascus.. with Assad resigning when HTS had barely set foot in the city with no more than maybe 15k men.. and when he met the PM to settle transfer of power he was informed the army had been dissolved and the men sent on leave.. which is consistent with reports that the withdrawls were all ordered from Assad down the chain of command and not due to disintegration or some kind of coup among the armed forces but an organized effort.. as to the time of Assad's resignation itself, that would ultimately also have been Putin's choice as Assad left Damascus with Russian help and fled to Moscow... we can also safely assume that the denial of support from Moscow, Teheran and Hezbolla was not only known but mutually agreed by all three parties.... so we can make a good argument that not only Russia knew of Assad's iminent fall, but it occured in a moment of Russia's choosing.. and judging by the reactions of media and political leaderships at the time at the time of the announcement, the news came unexpected to them.. 3) knew the consequences of Assad's removal in sending Syria into chaos and anarchy? I would guess so.. in a weird way Russia's presence and the continued existence of the Assad regime kept Syria in a somewhat stable state.. as the opposition to the Assad regime was the only thing keeping the different factions and their backers in a shaky alliance.. not to mention, Russian ground operations were only introduced when Syria was overrun by the Islamic State, not the initial rebellion.. however since that 8 years have passed, 13 since the uprising of the Syrian people.. realistically there was no way left to reunify Syria under Assad.. or frankly any government based on consensus between the various factions .. which is not helped by Assad's increasingly brutal regime, that caused the people to rise up in the first place.. how much of that was known to Putin is unclear but just today a mass grave was dug up behind one of the prisons outside Damascus containing at least 75000 bodies.. so Putin's choice was between pouring ressources into keeping Assad in power with uncertainty when it would all fall apart.. or remove Assad at a time of opportunity and his choosing before the opposing forces could establish any sort of control over the wider country.. therefore it is well within the scope of reason to assume Putin deliberately chose to have Assad resign at the time he did.. and at this point it would seem the move had the anticipated effect.. the forces who had fought 13 years for a Syria without Assad were completly unprepared for it.. not to mention, it is hardly understandable how a government under basically Daesh, which is who the US chose to go to bed with for this, is any improvement for the Syrian people.. but this quagmire is no longer his to deal with.. Russia can wait and see.. and then decide what's best at the opportune time.. the West paints this already as a victory not realizing that it was just a move in a game that is still very much still going.. it has just entered its next phase..

@@DefensePoliticsAsia my best guess would be quite simple.. because it was a very opportune moment to do so.. US leadership was distracted with the lost election and the subsequent transition of power.. not to mention, containing Biden, Blinken and Sullivan who had been publicly recognized as "the principal architects of US policy in Syria and Ukraine", as far back as 2013.. being replaced by an incoming new administration whose approach, and frankly capability, towards US foreign policy is entirely uncertain.. giving Putin an around two month window, from November 6th to January 20th, to create new realities and a new strategic state of play, one by his design and in his favour, for BOTH theatres of his conflict with the US. he HAS to take the initiative.. and we can see that very much at play in both theatres.. in Ukraine the effect is immediate and we can see a further intensification of Russian efforts all across the line right after the US election.. with Ukrainian forces showing signs of collapse.. forcing the US administration's focus on Ukraine and its efforts to keep that project going.. the question is what to do about Syria? here it must be noted that Putin is far less attached to Syria than the US thinks he is, much less anyway as attached as the US themselves is.. his attachment to Assad is probably even lower, given he "inherited" both him and their alliance from the US.. leading him to be stuck in the Syrian stalemate ever since he saved Assad from the Islamic State nearly a decade ago.. there is no possible way to reconcile Syria with Assad in power and keeping him in power for the sake of Tartous is not worth it.. not to mention, Putin can always angle for Tartous as Russian shipments of grain are tied to the lease and existential and irreplaceable for whoever rules in Damascus.. also Putin as well as Syria's other principle allies Iran and Hezbollah are long fed up with Assad anyway.. making a preferably sudden and unexpected removal of Assad and forcing the US to deal with it, an enticing and ressource friendly option as well as the most impactful possible move, if played right.. whether he somehow initiated Erdogan's HTS idea, or it fell into his lap, we will never know.. although how perfectly it fits both Putin and Erdogan's concerns and aspirations, as well as their mutual desire to end their troops more or less facing each other, paints an intriguing picture.. as does the map.. which shows us contunous shelling along the line of contact with the Idlib Governate through the first half of November.. notably most concentrated at the exact points the HTS offensive will cross into regime held territory and the highway leading there.. so obviously they know somethings coming up that road.. then the shelling grows ever more sporadic and almost entirely stops from the 23rd to 26th.. on the morning of the 27th the HTS offensive starts towards Aleppo and the Russians withdraw from the city... on the 28th Assad flies to Moscow and meets Putin, as the HTS tries breaking out of Idlib Governate to the South but are mostly repelled.. on the 29th Assad returns to Damascus and the Syrian Army immediately begins to withdraw south towards Damascus.. the offensive is stopped at Hama, which is held by the Russians, from the 3rd to the 6th.. before suddenly the Russians and Syrian Army withdraw until at 4:00 am on the 8th HTS reaches Damascus and Assad resigns and is taken to Moscow.. and minutes later all hell breaks lose.. forcing the US administration and its allies to focus their full attention to the Syria situation.. which they will as to their eyes, victory in their 13 year project to depose Assad has fallen into their lap a month before they leave.. while Putin is free of the Syria situation, for the time being, leaving him a month and a half to put his full weight into Ukraine.. that's why he did it..

The Syrian government for the most part stayed except Assad. Wouldn’t be the first time a dictator escape to the country that put him there. The US has done that many times with the dictators they put in Haiti and all of them were overthrown.

Have all the sanctions on Syria been lifted? That will be absolutely necessary to avoid a humanitarian disaster. I expect the Russian bases to be central to distributing civilian aid. The very last thing anyone wants is a free democratic election for a new legal government of Syria. This creates a crisis for the UN, already struggling with Israel's genocide. They must do something and deployment of peace keeping forces will be suggested along with immediate withdrawal of all external militaries

Heard a Kroatian journalist on that Nima guys channel. Interesting speculation. Could indeed be another master strategical chessmove, by Russia, China, Turkey, Iran and Arabs. We don't know. Need to watch not to misjudge. Thingsboften different than they look. See how Israël panicked how fast they proxy ak Qaida was granted the land and went on a bombing frenzy to not let Syrian material and facilities get at their disposal. Poor Syrian civilians though. For them I worry. We do know Turkey and SArabia are on to how US and NATO current ownership are. Bananacorp oligarchy that is not true brothers and friends.

Its possible, its a move to get more troops on the european side of russia. They probably saw theat Assad was stagnating without Oil money that USA was stealing. So this was just a natural outcome.

I think that is the case considering Assad got to walk away compared to the other deposed leaders in the area.
@ivogacina971012 күн бұрын
Wyat, i am suprised how shallow you think about russian interests in syria, saying its only purely because of bases. Certainly bases are part of it, but most important is the levarage you have on goverment itself. No case is 0 amd no case is 100% , but with asad gone that leverage fell significantly, even if the bases are kept.
@chanpasadopolska12 күн бұрын
Russia lost it's assets, it's no point of making it some sort of russian 5 dimension chess move, but still you can milk some benefits even from bad situation. Russia can now focus on Ukraine even more. Maybe they will keep some presence, US has military base on Cuba after all so it would be no precedent, but costs will be significantly higher, in my opinion Russia should just give up all those bases and think about new ones in Africa

Bro, without the Syrian bases there will be no bases in Africa.

Thats sort of true but the fact that Assad got to live tells me Russia made a deal probably with Turkey and HTS. The threats HTS could mean something unless the opposition wins which could be likely and I guarantee they won’t care if Russia is there or not. Another thing to they could stop doing any threats to Russia considering they could get equipment from them that won’t be expensive as stuff from the US snd Israel.

Yeah that's a great theory but its cope. The reality is Russia got caught by surprise and so did everyone even the rebels only expected to just capture a few towns and an highway.
