Does this actually do anything? Money's value is just perception, can't russia just print new bills, and treat 1000 rubles the same as if it was 100? just add a 0, pay everyone an extra 0, increase spending by 10x to match what is lost. theoretically, if you increase wages by 10x, taxes will also rise by 10x, so would anything actually change?

That's where the Australian implementation of the Westminster system works very well. Instability of an elected head of state is avoided. The executive is drawn from the legislature, & thus accountable at all times: up to & including votes of 'no confidence', to remove the executive. The courts are not elected, & thus not susceptible to mere popularity contests. Add in: - a truly independent electoral commission in total charge of each election; - preferential voting; & - requirement to attend a polling place & have name marked off the roll. Yes, there are 'issues' around the edges, but overall, it just works.

The U.S. needs election reform big time. I support Ranked Choice Voting. This allows a third or 4th candidate to run without a spoiler effect. If your 1st choice gets eliminated, an automatic second count gives your vote to your 2nd choice. Election is over when someone gets a majority.

Scholz in on an electian campaign in Ukraine. He will lose his job on the election on 23 February. The bashing of Scholz is not justified, he delivered more of the expensive and modern air defense systems to Ukraine than any other country including USA. Most other European countries donate much less, beside the Baltics and Nordic countries.
@jacafren584215 күн бұрын
@@maritaschweizer1117there is much truth to what you say. In substance Germany 🇩🇪 is doing a lot for Ukraine 🇺🇦 and Germany’s neighbors to the north 🇩🇰appreciate this 🤝 It is often highlighted in analysis on the news. However, there are some strange restrictions and hesitation on so-called offensive weapons, and a very restricted rhetoric. But again better to let actions speak louder than words. In any case we all need to stand together and stop blaming each other in Europe. Let everyone do what they can- Germany is surely needed and we know you are there 👍

I'm an insignificant person way over here on the other side of the globe from the Amazing people of Ukraine, but I understand what those brave Warriors gave the Ultimate sacrifice for! They gave their lives for the safety and freedom of their loved ones in their homeland of Ukraine, out of service to their brothers & sisters at arms on the battlefield with them, but also for something that goes far beyond the borders of Ukraine. For an idea. One that, sadly, many of us in the west take for granted today. The American Revolution goes back about 10 or 11 generations now. But I have a profound Respect and Gratitude for what those early Americans did for me. Our Revolution had an impact that went far beyond our borders as well. And like Ukraine, the early Americans did Not do it all by themselves! Ukraine's fallen Heroes will not be forgotten! Glory to the Heroes! 🇺🇦 Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦

It's sadly interesting to note that the first thing the then president of Ukraine said after signing the Budapest memorandum was, to paraphrase: "It's not worth the paper it was written on", and "When Russia breaks this agreement and invades nobody will lift a finger to help." This is the president whom the Ukrainian gave the old heave-ho to and even he could see what was coming as a Russian sympathizer! That means *everybody* there knew and still *nothing* was done to foil Russia's ambitions! How many have needlessly died? Utterly shameful. PS: So why did he sign? 1) All those nuclear weapons on Ukrainian soil were baby-sat by Russian troops, they were never in the hands of the Ukrainian people. Having a load of Russian soldiers with an excuse to be stationed in Ukraine was too much of a risk to their sovereignty so the weapons (and the soldiers) had to go. 2) The post-soviet Ukrainian economy was a mess and part of the deal to sign over the nukes was a big financial sweetener from the USA. 3) Why were the 'western powers' so keen to divest Ukraine of these weapons? They thought Russia of all places was a safer place for those nukes to be, and they worried that Russia with an excuse to have thousands of troops stationed in Ukraine was asking for trouble... ...but knowing that still made no attempt to help Ukraine, and when push came to shove let the Russians do whatever the hell they liked just as the then Ukrainian president predicted! I'll say it again - This war that has been going on since at least 2014, that has killed hundreds of thousands if not millions of people, was predicted back in 1994. Shamefully nobody who saw it coming did a DAMN thing to prevent it - murderers! Sorry to rant yet again - all this needless tragedy, all these needless deaths, all because our 'leaders' who saw this coming and could have prevented it didn't do their DAMN jobs.

The truly grotesque thing about this is that no Western country had the integrity to say no to Putin as he sought to extend his dictatorship into Ukraine in 2014 and 2022. How many more innocent Ukrainian people of all ages will die before the West FULLY supports Ukraine as they fight for their very existence? Assad/Russian murderers were happy to bomb, gas, machine gun and otherwise murder innocent, unarmed, defenceless Syrian civilians, but when they saw armed fighters heading their way they literally ran away, abandoning 31 operation main battle tanks and a treasure trove of military equipment, weapons ammunition, SAM Systems, etc, valued in the many tens to hundreds of millions of dollars. All of which will now be used against the Assad/Russian murderers. Russian military forces cannot even secure Russia, or reclaim the occupied parts of Russia, so Assad thinking his Russian murderers will protect him is purely deluded thinking! Russian military forces cannot even protect themselves in Syria (or Ukraine, or Russia for that matter!) so it may be only a matter of time before Putin abandons Assad...

If Ukraine had RU babysitting nuclear sites and couldn't use the permissive action links (maybe reverse engineered), I'd say it was safer to ship them back to RU. It doesn't make all that much difference if RU has 5500 or 6000 warheads (yes, reprocessing, etc, but at scale it's kinda meh) I'm more dismayed about the TU-160s Ukraine had to return, etc, stuff that would be useful in a hot conventional war. Just IMO and I'm no expert.
@Leonardo-from-Sweden15 күн бұрын
One should also remember that those nukes was dismantled in russia, in an agrement between mainly US and Russia. It was a time when huge numbers of nukes was dismantled, many had a hope for a friendly, democratic russia. Later on Putin grabed the power and here we are.

I'm guessing the Founders made a blunder in that they failed to foresee that a President couldn't be removed by impeachment if his own loyalists made up at least a third of the Senate. I guess it ties in with how they disapproved of political parties (which they called "factions") in general.
