Russia rebuilding Mariupol with little trace of Ukrainian culture

The port city of Mariupol fell to Russian forces after nearly 86 days of fighting and Moscow has since been demolishing and rebuilding to create a new city.

Ugly Soviet era monuments and statues have been taken down across Ukraine since 2014 . Russia under Putin has made false claims that Ukraine is crawling with Nazis . Having lived in Ukraine , never once did I come across any Nazi symbolism or Nazis , although if I searched hard enough the 1.6% of the population who voted for the only far right candidate could be located . ROFL at the title. Mariupol was founded and built by the Russian Empire. During the 30 years in Ukraine after the dissolution of the USSR in 1991, Ukraine did not build anything here. I have lived in Ukraine , never saw any Bandera statues there or any signs of Nazis , although apparently in western Ukraine a monument in Lviv commemorates his fight against communist and Soviet Union forces . In the 2019 Ukrainian presidential election only one far right party had enough support to run a candidate , who received 1.6% of the vote , which pretty much indicated Ukraine is not what Putin would have you believe . He on the other hand supports the Wagner Mercenary Group run by Prigozhon , a known neo Nazi who employes confessed Nazi commanders into that military force . There are at least 6 neo fascist organisation in Russia . The vast majority of Ukrainian's are not into extremist politics, they want what Zelensky was delivering which is a moderate western aligned county not influenced from Moscow . Mariupol was part of Russia until the 1920s when the communists changed the Ukraine boundary - the people in this city were Russian (founded by Catherine the Great) and were not given a choice but it did not matter in Soviet times as it was all one country anyway - all buildings in Mariupol post 1920s were built by Soviets to standard residential forms found all over the Soviet Union - the was nothing 'Ukrainian' about them, whatever is supposed to be meant by 'Ukrainian' (Galitizan?). Post 1991 when Mariupol was part of the independent Ukraine state no new buildings were undertaken in the city and one small park was added, so the idea that this city had a 'Ukraine' identity is absolute rubbish.

If you studied the conflict a little you would see that Russian forces hold a narrow stretch of Ukrainian territory right along its south eastern border to Crimea . Mariupol is in that area and currently out of reach of Ukrainian forces a hundred or so kilometres away .
