This video is about the world's largest oil and gas production project, Sakhalin-2 (on Sakhalin Island, Russia). The total cost is about 25 billion dollars. The project includes the development of the Piltun-Astokhskoye oil field and the Lunskoye natural gas field on the shelf of Sakhalin Island in the Sea of Okhotsk, as well as the construction of onshore infrastructure.
Sakhalin-2 project includes:
- Piltun-Astokhskoye-A platform (the Molikpaq, the PA-A)
- Lunskoye-A platform (the Lun-A)
- Piltun-Astokhskoye-B platform (the PA-B)
- Onshore processing facility
- TransSakhalin pipelines
- Oil export terminal
- LNG plant
- Plans for an additional platform (the PA-C)

Wonder how long this platform and shore facility will produce as designed since the partners have withdrawn from the project? Tough conditions to produce natural gas and spare parts / contractors to do overhauls will certainly be hard to obtain.

Russia & Japan have attempted to recruit in the Middle East with promises of film star salaries. I have had a few emails directly from the installation’s This is due to Shells policy of ‘hands off for locals’ Europeans & North Americans maintaining the essential plant.

@@icuric4077 China and India are oil importers and have small oil and gas resources so very limited knowledge in advanced drilling technology. Most of Russian and before that Soviet drilling was a collaboration with the west for export to Europe. The Sakhalin project was in cooperation with Japan but they have left the project.

One thing the presentation fails to indicate is that all the oil production & processing plants were engineered & imported. The Molipaq is a second hand production platform from Alaska the additional oil export module being engineered & fabricated in Korea. The power generation, gas compression & water injection provided by Siemens, control & safety system provided by AB USA. Second platform much the same. RR turbines. The onshore facility much the same, RR gas turbines for process & power generation. Therefore other than construction Russian content appears to have been minimal. I worked on GT maintenance on the Molipaq which was contracted out OIM senior trades all supported by Shell & contractor reps. Infrastructure on shore including housing was even imported, so not a lot of Russian content.

Sakhalin Island was a disputed island claimed by the 2 countries even before world war 2. When World War 2 broke out, The Imperial Japanese Forces occupied Sakhalin Island. When Japan and Nazi Germany lost at World War 2, Russia (formerly Soviet Union) claimed Sakhalin Island back. Economically, Japan has to pay the damages of world war 2.

Japan was always just a JV partner. Think it was Mitsubishi, Gazprom, and Shell. Then Shell sold their share to another Russian company. Mitsubishi I think still has their share. The Japanese need the energy, especially now that the Yen is basically toilet paper now.

As a matter of fact, there was no low demand of Gas from Europe. Truth is, EU imposed a sanction on Russia after Russia became a rising economic superpower. It was all Economic and POLITICAL JEALOUSY. EU, US and the West is so jealous that Russia is fast rising in the Oil and Gas industry.
