This has "Doctor" Filipp Shvetsky's fingerprints all over it. Valieva will NOT "grow up" to become a great figure skater; like her fellow "Sambo 70" training camp victims Lipnitskaya, Zagitova, and Medvedeva, her body will break down and she will retire by age 17 and be cruelly discarded by their Svengali coach Eteri Tutberidze. By allowing Valieva to skate in Beijing, the message that CAS is sending to Eteri is: INCREASE the doping of your girls, from the ages of 11-12 through 16, when they are no longer accorded "special protected status," and we will look the other way. I’ve been thinking about the Kamila Valieva case over the past few days .. Her only "sin" or "mistake" is that she allowed herself to be put down. The drug scandal is disproportional both to the added performance boosting effect and completely disconnected from the agency of the individual. Banning or shunning her from a potential medal ceremony was the morally wrong choice and a legal trick over a trace substance. Retroactive and prohibitive punishment should go to the doctors and coach, whereas she was no more advantaged than the rest of her team, as far as competitiveness goes she should have had a clear path to gold instead of getting shunned. Both the Russian system and the politics of the IOC and WADA are despicable and would be considered abusive perhaps 50 years from now when morality has further evolved. WADA may be complicit with insider betting activity, either having delayed results for insiders or its pipeline and laboratory actively tampered with the test. Meanwhile, the irresponsible IOC played politics with her fate, giving a sentence that goes against human rights considering the "innocent until proven guilty" principle by denying ceremonies in case she won, effectively pushing her off balance either through her team's influence or just shunning. She should have been shielded from all the media circus and a full investigation into the practices of the Russian system should have followed after the event, not punishing the innocent person involved. Even if illegal doping was involved (and most athletes are heavily doped “legally”), it should punish the guilty party (doctors and coaches) retroactively and prohibitively, not the athlete who relies on them, is innocent in this case, and is in fact a replaceable part for these people. In this case, her body was no more abused with drugs than that of any of her teammates, who are kept unnaturally slim through diet and supplements. She doesn’t get to celebrate her hard work of training, "live the Olympic dream", and is instead treated to a tremendous letdown of which she is made complicit to when breaking down. The legalities invoked by the IOC are rubbish, against the “letter and intent” of what constitutes human rights which are essentially above any law. Almost surely she was effectively no more doped than whatever is default for Russians, with “legal” cocktails designed to abuse her body, enabling overtraining and staying slim by overriding normal development. That and diet is how they are made to peak at 15-17 and perform quads. Once they mature, quads are far less feasible (at least from what I’ve read). The illegal drug ended up by mistake or as a trace or the sample was tampered with. In no event should she have been considered guilty, whereas the system of abusing young women for this sport needs to be stopped by raising the age bracket and banning the cocktails, not just individual substances. 🙁

Russia's power to subdue the CAS has not only been disregarding drug trials, but it has also ridiculously distorted the judges' decisions. Remember when Russia bribed referee at the Salt Lake Olympic pair skating and usurped the gold medal that should have been awarded to Canada. Even Russia's gold medal was not revoked, creating an absurd case of a joint gold medal. The nonsensical scores of Russian players these days are just a continuation of what has been happening in Salt Lake since Sochi. So, watching Russian female figure skaters score ridiculously high, the audience has been deceived into thinking they are great athletes. Russia is a doping country at the national level. And It is said that there are athletes who never do drugs, but there are no athletes who do drugs only once. Now, the quad jumpers come only from Russia, and all the gold medals are taken by Russian women. But, Russia has never won an Olympic gold medal in women's figure skating before the dirty medal in Sochi. Thus, a positive test for Valieva is clear evidence of continued doping in Russian athletes. What justice is there in a country that commits robberies beyond undermining the spirit of sports by bias judgments and dopings? Russia, preparing to invade Ukraine, uses all kinds of excuses and blames other countries, but they are only invading Ukraine because they are evil.

I don’t believe in taking drugs at all. But watching figure long enough, I can say that these Russian quads aren’t by drugs…it’s the modern day technique of maximizing pre-rotation before jumps and more that gives them the edge. I don’t think this heart medication gives her the technique she posses, but with stamina that they think she needs…but shame that her coaches have been giving her unnecessary substances that take away from this amazing skating

I remember the east German women's swim team from the sixties - they all looked like linebackers. EVERYONE, including joe-public knew they were doped up. They took the podium everytime. Later, after the iron curtain fell, it was confirmed that they had been using banned substances - probably not by their own choice - and I heard that most of the team died from cancer, altho' I have not verified that before I wrote this.

One of the funniest things I saw when I was a graduate student was how some of the best students were also completely amoral. They cheated at every opportunity, even though they probably would have ended up with top honors without doing it. One guy I remember, maybe he didn't study for the exam at all, hanging out with his girlfriend over the weekend, had his face on my test paper throughout the whole exam. I almost had to tell him to move his face out of the way lol! Some of these people are win at all costs people; they are that competitive and have no qualms about whether they do it fairly or not.

Thomas Bach's remarks are the pinnacle of hypocrisy. In this season, Kamila's doping test results were clean at four international competitions, but only the test for the Russian national competition showed polluted result. Therefore, this case required a thorough investigation and verification, but there was not enough time. As CAS rejected IOC's indictment to ban Kamila's participation in individual competition, the IOC should have announced that IOC would normally award medals for the results of the game, but that medal and record could be deprived if Kamila did intentional doping. The IOC's shocking announcement "If Kamila stands on podium, medal award ceremony would be canceled" must have acted as the biggest pressure on Kamila, And this IOC's Threat made her step down from the podium by herself. Furthermore this ultimately made it impossible to watch Kamila's performance in full of heavenly and mysterious beauty, which all figure fans around the world wanted to see. The IOC should take the greatest responsibility

The way I see it is, Kamila V. age 15 is a minor, and whomever is responsible for giving her the medications in order to enhance her performance should be held accountable, unless it was her doctor, specifically for her own medical issues, and then at that if she couldn't perform at the Olympic level without the meds, she shouldn't have been required to do so. She had a trainer and the trainer certainly knows the rules of the Olympics. I find it terribly sad for Kamila because she may have won without being given the meds, if not, then at least she would be like all the other who go to the Olympics, naturally giving it their all-win or lose.

Kamila and her family need to relocate out of the Soviet Union because her coaches, doctors and the Russian Federation failed her and then, when caught, scapegoated her. They are fully responsible for what has occurred here. Explain how it took 6 weeks to return the drug test taken on December 25 with the results revealed the day Kamila was skating at the Olympics? Kamila is a prodigy and should be free to skate her best skate in a country that welcomes her skills without the interference of adults who have their own nefarious agendas. And by the way --- very severe Olympic penalties for her coaches, doctors and The Russian Federation itself. They certainly knew exactly what they were doing to this child. Disgusting!

My question is what are they going to do to the Russian Federation?!?!? They are the ones that should be held responsible for this entire issue!! We know Valieva is 15 and most likely didn't have a say in any of this because remember we are talking about Russian Figure skating. They only want to WIN. End of story. I doubt very seriously that she actually has a heart condition. This reminds me of Maria Sharapova!!! Another Russian athlete that took heart medication for endurance and recovery. This is clearly a technique that Russian Athletes use to get an edge. It's not right! They have found a way to "cheat" the athletic system legally.
