When I was 10, one day I heard on the radio, that a man was robbing a small corner store in San Francisco. A 75 year old man, came in and disarmed him of his shotgun. When the police arrived, said was a Cossack. This was back in 1975. San Francisco has a strong Russian community, and I wish them only to grow.

Russians have Cossacks; great Orthodox worriors, they love fighting, drinking, singing and dancing. Just like Russians Serbian people have similar worrior part. Most part of Serbian people are Slavic Orthodox(there is also katolic Serbs-Croatians and muslim Serbs-Bosniacks). Serbians have Crnogorce(Montenegrians) and Kraišnike(border worriors, now they are Orthodox minority in Croatia). Both love to dance and sing, eat and drink, fight and love. But there is one more part called Gusari( or Husars), after fall Kosovo 1389. a lot of Serbian cavalry escape in Poland. In Poland they become powerfull mercenaries army, for centuries they have been model for each cavalry in the world. Generaly, Slavs are the biggest worriors in the world.

In late 1991, just before the dissolution of the former Soviet Union, a delegation of Terek Cossacks had petitioned the reinstatement of the old Terek Oblast which during Czarist times encompassed most of the southern Republics of the Russian Federation like Chechnya and North and South Ossetia. The Cossack argument was that in the late 19th Century, the Terek Oblast was a prosperous agricultural region and today's Caucasus republics are failed states dependent on largess from Moscow. For better or for worse, the Cossack petition was denied.

Cossack is not an ethnicity or nationality. It's an occupation. A few of the Cossacks identify themselves more strongly with that occupation than with their ethnicity, but most find a happy balance. While not every Cossack is a Russian, the overwhelming majority are. That is what the gentleman in the video implied. Odd that you, being a foreigner and outsider with perhaps only a cursory and second-hand knowledge, propose to dispute his words, don't you think?
