Shame it is spoiled - AGAIN - by lumping Europe in with the nazionist/anglo/american bankster mafia - oops, sorry - "the west" and it's anti Russian paranoia. Remember that video when Putin is being interviewed and he got told that missiles in Poland are not targeted against Russia but against Iran. And Putin was laughing at the interviewer and said he will go home now with a good humor. Polish president 3 days ago announced publicly that Polish missile base is targeted against Russia. So, it turns out that Putin spoke the truth back 10 years ago.

Missiles are not "targeted" at anything until they are readied for launch. The anticipated target at the time may have been Iran but if the order came down the target programmed in could have been anywhere in range. Saying they are "targeted" at anything unless they are actually being launched is just political B.S.

❤What a wonderful conversation. Bravo👍! As a pro-Russian Ukrainian, I completely agree with Lukyanov's assessment. In order to understand Russians, you need to understand the Russian soul, know Russian history and be an Orthodox Christian (or at least have traditional values). And who better than a Ukrainian (who woke up from Zelensky's zombifying propaganda) can understand the Russian soul! 🤷♀️Apparently because, as Putin said, Russians and Ukrainians are one people.

What a beautiful statement. As a pro-peace American I completely agree and wish that my fellow Americans would try to understand the Russian soul and appreciate its great culture and the massive sacrifice the Russian people made in WW2, the hardships forced upon them during the Cold War and the real treachery of the West toward Russia until today. What the insane US neocons have done to Ukraine is an abomination. May we all find our way to better times. Be well.

Of course. It was always that way from the get-go: Security for the NATO puppets, but no security for Russia. The US is using NATO expansion to establish a US/NATO/EU sphere of influence along Russia’s borders for the purpose of political and economic subversion of the Putin regime. That should be manifestly obvious by now.

I must say the Duran has excelled itself by bringing on Mr. Lukayanov. The discussion was very thoughtful, measured, realistic and unfortunately threw up some questions which I had thought of and couldn't find the answers. I attributed that to my lack of depth or awareness in the subject of IR, but the sheer complexity of the developing situation throws up only open ended questions which your guest himself indicated and had the candour enough to qualify his statements , right at the beginning. My special thanks to Prof Glen Diesen for inviting him from Valdai and Mr. Mercouris as always added value to the debate. I liked to hear in particular how the leaders of EU's big three UK , France and FRG went to Washington and convinced Reagan about the European need for cheap energy supplies. The picture of Chancellor Olaf Scholz standing inert next to President Biden when the blowing up of Nordstream 2, a project of vital importance to the German economy was made casually without any push back whatsoever and the same answer was given to the journalist who persisted with that question, just indicated the depths to which the EU has fallen. Mr. Alexander please keep making these historical references, as people like me who were not around then, become aware of what the quality and wisdom of leadership was back then. Maybe it might help people like me learn something from the past.

Russia has been trying to be close to Europeans since the 18th century and I believe, Russia saw Western Europe's rise due to the latter economic and commercial successes in Triangular Commerce, and its taking over most of the world. Hence, the politics of Peter the Great and Empress Catherine II. The Revolution changed al and worsened the relations between Russia and Western Europe. I think Pr Diesen's advice is sound; that is not to try at all costs to be in close alliance with Western Europeans, who, no matter what Russia would say, or see themselves as, would not change Western Europeans' view of Russia as the land of Slaves and Tartars. This is about ethnicity as well.

I don’t think Russia, and extendable the global south, will be interested to re-friend with European until colonialism mindset and combined with a complete elimination of patronizing attitude is first behaved. A willingness to discuss a pan-European security architecture with Russia on equitable terms can be the most important step forward.
@iljaliasenko14314 сағат бұрын
As guest said the world is changing so fast that it is hard to evaluate what it will look like in 10 years... Europe lives in a bubble of old concepts. For instance Pan-European peace concept seems to be outdated. R.F. waspushed out of Pan-European concept of security and relies now on DPRK, Iran, China as main allies to prop its security. So Pan-European concept contracted into territory of EU and NATO. What Europeans need to discuss now is Pan-Asian security. This makes more sense as Iranian missiles can reach London, DPRK missiles reach any destination in Europe. Chinese missiles can strike any location in Europe. Indias can reach half of Europe. Even Houthies can strike EU countries like Cyprus. Pan-european peace concept can discuss peace between Germany and France 😅.

@@charlesyang4923 you say that it cannot be, but what we see is that it is. This is the result of thinking outside of the box of dogmas and old theories. Countries like Iran, China, DPRK and Russia exchange technologies and know-how to ensure that the balance of power is maintained against their adversaries in the West. For instance, the transfer of drone tech or airdefence capabilities, transfer of new planes, transfer of advanced modern semiconductors. List goes on. Latest is transfer of big armies together with military machines and supplies.

My old mentor Australian Prime Minister Mr John Howard once said to me 'Paul, to compromise is to fail', sage advice Mr Putin should employ in Ukraine - set the surrender terms.
@johnsammers22 сағат бұрын
Howard made some extremely questionable choices in his premiership. Relationships without a degree of compromise inevitably break down. Notwithstanding, everyone should have boundaries....red lines as it were.

There's talks that Trump may look to end the FED, assuming he actually does that isn't changing the fact BRICS is continuing to grow.

Ending the FEB ? Does the 3-letter words J f k ring the bell ? Is he willing to roll the dice ?

BRICS is dead in the water whilst Russias currency is practically worthless such that China and India don’t accept payment in it.

Unfortunately Europe is becoming more ignorant and less relevant. Russia is advancing on every front. Perhaps western leaders should visit and tour a bit more? But that is hard work. Remaining ignorant is cheaper and the only people to lose out are us Europeans. Never the elite.

Maybe catching a glipse of ourselves from outside the bubble will bring an end to the fairy tale and we can see the authors of our grim reality for what they are. Your guest might be a start of checking out the emperor's new clothes.

Will Europe become like Greece? A tourist attraction to see the past glories when Europe was the world's rulers.

In the UK we are constantly told by those in charge that the monarchy is valuable because it "attracts tourists". Yep...we've become a Royal theme park where our leaders dream of past glories and pretend they still rule an empire. It's a little embarrassing tbh.😳

As far as security in concern, an Asia without China, or an Europe without Russia is non-sustainable just like a post US hegemon era without US. A cool-headed political leader needs to comprehend fully the complexity of international geopolitics (especially the negative consequences of betting the wrong game), and whilst considering the best interest of his own country and at the same time to come to a compromised but acceptable solution by taking into consideration the security concerns from counterparty. This is what diplomacy is all about, yet Western powers are so short of this day.

It would seem that most (in practice it's glaringly obvious), if not all of American's initiatives regarding war is to gain some type of short term ¡monetary advantage. Time and time again, the collective west has shown to place financial profits above a lasting peace. Once again, you and your guests help flesh out the workings of the international community instead of wrongfully catering to the West.
