Russia's foreign minister has announced the Kremlin's aim to capture the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, in a Russian radio interview.
Sergei Lavrov said that Kharkiv is key to Putin's idea of creating demilitarized zones in Ukraine, which would protect Russian border settlements from Ukrainian fire. Kharkiv is Ukraine's second-largest city and has been under fierce bombardment for weeks, with key infrastructure being targeted.

yep ,AND it's a major city and has been always been a major cultural ukrainian city including the history and personal connections and fact that it was basically a major part of the braintrust of Ukraine, ie socially, academically and professionally. Imho, as an american non ukrainian, not even slavic myself, i personaly believe that a coalition of the willing nations should intervent IF Kharkiv is at risk. This is bcuz both it and now Kiev and increasingly Odesa, are under risk and threat and the intentions by Ru have been made plainly clear. The same is true of Bahkmut, where they moved about 2km west of Bahkmut in a year, but lost territory south of Bahkmut. There is no evidence they are able to move past Avdivika... again, less than 2km of the city. Cities matter in this war because Ukraine has turned them into fortresses along that frontline. Or put it this way. The time between Severndonesk and Bahkmut was 10 months, the time between Bahkmut and Avdivika was 8 months. It will take Russia more than a year to take Kharkic, and in that time the US elections will be over and the Dems will be all in on destroying Russia.
