Speaking to my friend here in Ukraine re: statues & street names, there was previously a lot of corruption associated with it. ie, friends & family members of certain govt officials got millions in contracts with non competitive bids, and then never actually completed the work. Repeatedly, apparently. So the streets were officially renamed but the old signs remain. Or no signs. I can attest to this.

I thought the question about why NATO tanks would do better than Russian tanks went mostly unanswered, except for the comments about their tanks being mostly older with problematic explosive armor. The question seemed to call for even a superficial comparison of Leopard or Abrahams tanks with what Russia has been fielding.

Optics, integrated AI for targeting and threat assessment, armour design, ability to directly integrate with each other and with supporting services so that things a Russian tank crew would take 30s to 1 minute to do (targeting) or co-ordinatiing with other forces (3-5 minutes) are either done automatically or in seconds. And their ability with being able to fire on the move with extreme accuracy. (yes things like the T-90 can do that, but not as well, or as fast and there are precious few of them left at this point for Russia) Most Russian tanks in the field cannot move and fire with any accuracy let alone speed. Most Russian tanks in the field (now, not at the start of the war) have no, or little very poor night fighting capabilities.

Optics (in particular, night-fighting), targetting, command and control , reliability. And communications -- the ability to fit seemlessly into a combined-arms operation, i.e. precisely what will be required for effective use. The armor of the western tanks were *designed* around defeating precisely the capabilities of the tanks Russia have actually deployed. Deployment of these in significant numbers will seriously enhance a southern offensive by the Ukrainians.

There have been a number of aircraft, both jetsand helicopters, downed by Ukraine in the last day or two (according to Ukraine). This means something, likely Russia starting a major offense. Time is of the essence. Russia knows tanks will be showing up on the front lines in 2 months or so and they may be trying to take ground before then. And German suggested donation of 14 or so is a bit pathetic but at least they won't need to depend on the Swiss for ammunition.

So, Scholz finally caved apparently. It only took 🇺🇸 committing 50 MBTs which require its jet engine removed for servicing, 15 gallons per hour AT IDLE of JP8 jet fuel, etc. Sounds like a GREAT fit for 🇺🇦. Thanks, Scholz. That said, if Ukraine can sustain the M1, it will be an utterly gorgeous sight to see them cutting through Russian tanks like they were made of tissue. They are insanely powerful.

Its JP8 actually!---For those that do not want to send tanks to Ukraine any and every excuse is used not to send!--Abrams CAN use other fuel like #2diesel but that is not often mentioned! Germany initial excuses for not sending Leopards was that new leopards would have to be sent and it would take 3 and a half years before they could be readied--now it turns out that the company can send 139 leopards right away as soon as permission from the government is given!--go figure!
@The_ZeroLine
@The_ZeroLine Жыл бұрын
@@WangAiHua That is true and I knew it, but I’m not immune to a little info selection’ism and the number of M1s that have the diesel APU upgrade are limited (technically, every M1 every M1 ever can run on diesel, but the new upgraded ones are realistically efficient). Upgrades began in limited numbers in 2017 and I am guessing these are tanks the US feels they need for themselves (personally, I doubt we’ll ever need tanks in large numbers again).

@@hmmcinerney Technically, they can literally run on anything flammable. From Bacardi 101 to butane, which would be helpful in a pinch. btw: In New Zealand we are also removing some of the most unsavoury statues that are a legacy of the British Empire and Maori Wars of the 19th Century! eg: Hamilton City Council removed the bronze statue of Captain John Fane Charles Hamilton (namesake of Hamilton City) from Hamilton city's Civic Square after a formal request from Waikato-Tainui Maori iwi (tribe). The request comes after a growing international drive to remove statues which are seen to represent cultural disharmony and oppression. The name of Hamilton (Kirikiriroa) and New Zealand (Aotearoa) itself may change to these Maori names, erasing these public celebrations of British colonialism and legacies of British oppressions of indigenous Maori... just sayin...

This info requires a bit of clarification. 1. Russian has never had a status of official language in Ukraine. Never. 2. Russian language “issue” (that isn’t not official) was picked up by the Russians and it was used as one of the reasons to start a war in Donbas back to 2014.

I believe that the mothers, wives and daughters of Russian troops can put huge compassionate pressure on the Russian population. The HUMAN question should be asked whether Russian women love their sons as much as Ukrainians love theirs. Compare what the Russians are gaining to what they are losing at a human family level. Focus on humanity, the economic, political, and strategic arguments will eventually manifest when the human cost is truly and openly expressed.

Please do not refer to eastern Ukraine as pro-Russian. (Minute 24). That is misleading. Yes, they speak Russian in addition to Ukrainian, may have some family in Russia, and maybe have leaned towards closer ties with Russia before this invasion. A majority of people fled to western Ukraine to escape Russian occupation. I used to live in eastern Ukraine and many people are very proud of being Ukrainian, especially now. 🇺🇦

OK then please explain why more eastern Ukrainians fled into Russia than everywhere else combined both before and after 2022?

Worse, he’s corrupt. The SPD is led by East Germans who pocket Russian energy $ by the billion and actually share Russian values. They started their careers as de facto Soviet citizens, so it shouldn’t be a surprise.

Chillout. The guy has way more responsibility than just helping Ukraine by supplying tanks. Once he does, Russia will try to cut the gas. There is always two sides of the coin.

Well, good thing that Germany gave the "ok" yesterday just a few hours after the request was send i guess. And even better, Ukraine will get a tank battalion (14 tanks) of the newer Leopard 2 A6 from Germany aswell.

I think the German tanks haven’t been maintained. It may take 6 months to get them ready. They are embarrassed about it, so they are using fake reasons why to delay.
