Russia's Tandem Wing Attack Aircraft

Like all tandem wing aircraft, the rear wing is suppressed by the front wing, this because the rear wing is in the wake or flow of the front wing, and consistent with that an amount of down wash alters the rear wings attitude into the flow. In the briefest explanation, a wing which is doing work will rebalance the flow by extracting energy away from it resulting in down wash. Ultimately, it will mean that the overall lift equation of the wings entire is markedly reduced. To minimise this, the rear wings angle of attack can be adjusted to better face the down wash from the front wing, slightly restoring its lift capacity. The problem then becomes one of sometimes unpredictable stall behaviour, because what we must always guard against is a rear wing stall, which will result in a flat stall and spin which will be difficult if not impossible to get out of.
