“Russia saved us…” Jaishankar hails India-Russia ties, downplays ‘overdependence talk’

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Eighth Global Technology Summit hailed India-Russia relations and praised ties between New Delhi and Moscow. He hailed India-Russia ties while he downplayed the overdependence in the India-Russia relationship. He said, “We have a relationship with Russia and it is not a relationship that happened in an instant. It is a relationship of close to 60 years. I see the problem defined in a way as though somewhere there’s some handicap that India has by having this relationship. But this relationship has saved us at times. Partly there is a lot of history and the force of that which has been a defining aspect of the India, Russia relationship. If you look at the Eurasian landmass, it makes sense that India and Russia would have strong relations because it is in accordance with the first principle of politics of your neighbor’s neighbor.”

EAM is absolutely correct about Russia saving India multiple times during crisis. One incident was the 1971 East Pakistan war, when the USA had almost attacked India (US 7th Fleet episode). Russian nuclear submarines showed up and saved the day....there are many other diplomatic cooperation between our two countries to consider. Bharat should be proud of our relationship with Russia.

Yea, sure... Now, let's see the friends of the USA; Japan, South Korea, Australia, vast majority of Europe, Canada... Do you know what these countries has common? High standart of living, actually working hospitals, democracy (true one, not Russian, China, KLDR-style...)... Let's see the friends of Russia; Eritrea (child soldiers, poverty, hunger, constant civil wars), Iran (brutal theocracy that murders anyone with a differnt opinion), KLDR (... like... everyone knows what is happening there, no amount of propaganda can actually make KLDR look good, not like anyone is really trying anymore even Chinese and Russians gave up on it), Syria (where they used chemical weapons on their own people, civilians...), China (so corrupt country, it's before another civil war... and no I am not talking about Taiwan which is an independent country)... India is no-ones friend. And everyone knows it. Especially this... mo*on, a minister of a country that pissed off the whole West with their little assassination program in the USA and Canada of Sikhs, trying to backpedal hard to find some friends and finding none. Russia sees a weakness, they will take it, and now India looks weak. Though I am big fan of their space program, love that Chandrayaan-3 craft on the moon.

@@mythbuster6126 Uhuh. Prove it. Having the same or similiar opionion doesn't mean they control us. Sooo... yea. And unless China, Russia, KLDR, etc, having other opinion and publicly declare it is allowed with surety the governement won't punish you for doing so. Try that in Russia, China, Eritrea, Iran or any other such country where they will jail or execute you for just anything else than complete and total support of the leadership opinions. And USA does have democracy. People can vote for a new party or independent. Having "only" two parties is the conclusion of their voters not laws.

You call that an independent sovereign nation?? Japan has to ask USA's permission to even create a new airway inside its OWN airspace!!! It holds military bases of USA and American soldiers have repeatedly sexually assaulted Japanese women, yet literally zero actions were taken against them. Just a quick Google search reveals all of this buddy. They are all just puppets, whose mouth USA shut by stuffing them with blood money USA earned by destabiling the world in the last century. Good job glorifying the global dictatorship of USA by using fancy buildings as examples. Much rather be poor and free than live in a golden cage. and dont forget russian and indian languages have common roots in sanskrit language - both have a similar mindset on life, family, nature, design, music, culture - these two countries have managed to stay together no matter what - revolutions or no revolutions - they never took sides that would make them adversaries of any sorts - more indians found home in russia than any country in the world - their children and grandchildren have become doctors, nurses, lawers, leaders and ceo of various companies - just like the states have now catching up with placing indians into the ranks of CEO at dozens of major corporations - but russia has done it long ago - before, during, and after ussr - in other words, india and russia are always on the same page of their histories - having said that - same applies to russian and chinese friendship that turned into a fruitful collaboration for both - when china was down under japanese occupation - russia liberated china from japan - and when russia is down under sanctions - china liberated russia from sanctions - it's a never ending cycle of keeping one another safe and sound - no wonder russia/china/india have combined over 5000 years of trusting each other - that's not just a long time experience - it is their foundation which cannot be broken by some 350 year old competitors - on the other hand - brits managed to break it a couple of times - and that is why russia/china/india will never take brits seriously again - brits lost all of them for good -

Even the Russian Foreign Minister (Lavrov) speaks in English when needed. So does the President of France (Macron), despite the French being historically extremely antagonistic towards the English language. 5. You're literally typing in English yourself 😂 Why not type in your mother tongue?
