Russia Touts "Very High Post" for Shoigu as Economist Takes Defence Reins For "Long War" In Ukraine

A Russian general in charge of personnel issues has been detained on suspicion of engaging in criminal activity, Tass news agency reported on May 14. News of the arrest of Lieutenant-General Yuri Kuznetsov came amid a wider overhaul of Russia’s defense ministry.
Kuznetsov served as the head of the 8th Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces from 2010 to 2023. He was detained "on suspicion of criminal activity”, Tass reported, adding that his workplace and residence had been searched.
Currency worth the equivalent of $1 million as well as "gold coins" and other "luxury items" are said to have been found in his possession.

His responsibilities have increased exponentially. He is now in charge of the entire military industrial complex of Russia. This was not a blind or surprising promotion. Putin and Shoigu probably discussed this for a long time. The point is that Shoigu knows more than anyone what the Russian military needs. By being in charge of the whole apparatus, he can tell who to what in order to get things done. When he was a minister of defence, he might have to go to Putin to get some things supplied. Now he can tell the naval manufacturers that he wants so many ships. If they say they do not have enough steel, he command the producers of steel to produce more.

Timur Ivanov arrested 3 weeks ago, now Yuri Kuznetsov arrested. Their boss Shoigu is "replaced" from Minister in charge of the Military... to someone who works for someone else. Lets call out the reality....it is a demotion. IF russia was winning the war, why replace the Minister of Defence after over 2 years if he is getting the job done?
