Inflation is NOT 9%. That is the Kremlin number that the IMF seems to accept without verification or audit. Most independent analysts put the number actually experienced by most Russians in the high 20s, nearer to the central bank rate. Examples include the 80% increase in potato costs and car prices off the scale. Let’s please fact check.

exactly. i have a russian friend living in berlin who says his family in st Petersburg are getting absolutely crushed by inflation, to the point where they're making big compromises to their lifestyles while still eating into savings. you don't get that from single digit inflation.

I note that our two Russian friends claim vastly different unit prices for potatoes. Theoretically there might be some local differences. The point is that the claimed 9% is patent nonsense. The family in St Petersburg seems to be a more reliable source. Note that for military-related personnel, the massive inflation if offset by big pay increases/bonuses, which are neither sustainable nor universal.

If you search on the Avito website, offers for farm potatoes start at 15 rubles per kilogram, but these are small potatoes. Good potatoes cost about 40 rubles per kilogram with delivery.
