A friend in Moscow’s brother was conscripted on the street about a month ago. He was shocked at the complete lack of equipment, no medical equipment at all and a total lack of officer comprehension and understanding of how to fight in any manner at all. He is half Ukrainian so all shots were deliberately aimed at nothing and so during the withdrawal of Russian troops at Izyum, he and four friends hid in a hastily dug trench and when they heard the Ukrainian soldiers above they started singing the Ukrainian National Anthem. Needless to say they were discovered, all were given food and water and now they’re in the Ukrainian army logistics unit.

It was just the same in Ukraine .... until 2014. That (Crimea) was a massive wake up call against that kind of corruption. Then came 'Maidan'. Ukraine turned to the west for help and under guidance built up a very formidable Army and security forces. I got pulled over in Texas near the Mexican border for a routine police check. The officer told me he was about to be deployed to Ukraine for training exercises with their police force. That was back in 2016.

I am something of an armchair general myself. I think that Ukraine only has about a month left before they have to stop. I think that in the north they are going to stop after taking Svatove. To me, just looking at a map and not knowing the area, it looks like a good place to set up a defensive line. Marsh, a river, forests and I think some hills. A good place to stop until winter comes and then boom get on the move again by late December and start to move on Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk. In the south, they do not have a really good position that they can stop and dig in from what I can see. They do have a river just east of Kherson, but they have a lot of ground to cover before Autumn starts to ramp up, from what other people have said, it's not as bad in the south, so they may be able to do it. Slava Ukraine!!

It wasn't a " dig against the French " . Any General worth his salt , is steeped in military history. At one point in WW1 , the morale of the French army collapsed because the French generals had used the army in an unbelievably callous manner of disregard to the huge losses the army had suffered . They repeatedly ordered massed attacks into the teeth of massed machine guns and artillery , that would have made a Banzai charge , look like a stroll in the park . Putin ,and his Generals have treated their army with a similar disdain . At least the French high command , ensured that their troops were relatively well equipped and fed . Before they ordered them forward to be slaughtered.

I'm subscribed to a Russian youtuber who fled to Turkey a week ago. He said there's several telegram groups formed by mostly Russian women who are related to mobilized men. They're raising money for basic supplies that the military isn't giving them. He said they were trying to help them get "meds, clothes, mattresses, sleeping bags, food, and even sponges". I have a feeling this winter is going to be much harder on the Russian military than Ukraine.

More than to do not help, the mobilization is a complete disaster: the formal military, already in a dire situation, get hopeless when they see the conscripts, that are arriving without any training, minimal weapons, and even uniforms, end dying for nothing.
@SeattlePioneer
@SeattlePioneer Жыл бұрын
That is why reorganizing and resupplying is so important. The veterans of the conflict so far should be the noncoms leading and training those conscripts, and officers who are veterans should be promoted. Your veterans are a priceless asset upon which to rebuild your army. The Ukrainian army should be encouraged to do that too, and for the same reason. Just grinding away until all your veterans are dead is a waste.

True winter is comming, and this will affect both sides but Russia has much further to travel than the Ukraine. The Germans found themselves stuck in the winter because they had such a long supply line to support, the Russians didn't have nearly as far to go to defend against the Germans. This time Russia has a rather long supply line to support and they have a very poor fighting force and winter is likely to be their enemy.

Morale could actually get worse by bringing in this many untrained, misequiped men. 1: with not being provisioned correctly they could actually be a burden on units already there. 2: throwing more men into the mix that are very lightly trained means that more of them will die. If I'm a Russian soldier on the front lines I'm expecting well trained, equipped men with high morale to help reinforce me. Not some weekend warrior with less than 3 months training, carrying a bunch of tampons and a rusted out rifle that could get me killed.
