Not new at all, if you look into the music catalog of artists like Kim Kwang Suk, you will see russian songs are common along with othher languages although limited.

Real bummer you lost some audio, can you copy it to internet archive? They did a legit great job on singing russian in a slight accent. It's so surreal to see everyone sitting still including our guys. I get it's the custom there but still unusual to see.
