Russia started with at best 150k troops and only about 80k were actual Frontline soldiers who were not there at first to fight because the 2nd minsk agreement which zelensky ignored because of Boris Johnson visit followed by the influx of NATO weapons. If anything Russia crippled Ukraine in the first 2 weeks because they were already at the Kyiv. Russia's 150k troops had to fight a NATO equipped 800k Ukrainian soldiers who's bases were destroyed in the first couple of weeks. This is why it's called a special military operation and not a war. Now it is a war.

My favorite aspect of your updates is the deep historical context you give whenever RU soldiers identify their units. This is something unique to your channel; *NO* other channel does this and it is more than just fluff for history nerds; it makes a difference. For example, when Avdiivka fell, CNN/BBC were still on the "RU conscripts don't want to fight" narrative. Yet, in your summary of the battle, you clearly showed Russian soldiers from freaking *Siberia* proudly displaying their battle flags. Along with the DPR troops we knew were there, it showed that the RU Army is made up of many different men from all over Russia's vast multi-ethnic interior and they all share pride in their country. We haven't seen that "poorly led conscripts" narrative from the West now in two months...

It's the difference between a Western Europe and Eastern Europe mindset on losing ground. Losing ground in western Europe is seen in an extremely negative light, especially since everything is much closer together. Eastern Europe has things much more spread out and large tracts of open territory, making it inherently much more difficult to defend. In such terrain, a more fluid and flexible defense is vastly superior because ground can always be retaken, especially when it is difficult to defend. Compared to the concepts of what Russia did in WW2 (due to the lack of heavy mechanization in their army), and the fact that they have gone through 3 genocidal events in the last 100 years, manpower isn't the limitless resource it was for them since the Romanovs came to power. You can always reclaim ground, but losses are harder and slower to replace. Giving ground when it can't be defended is critical in such battlefields, and the Russians have done what they do every war: start with a catastrophic amount of blunders, and then learn. Ukraine either isn't learning or learning the wrong things, as their manpower losses (combined with the inherent difference in total manpower at the start) are really starting to catch up with them.
