If English had an instrumental case, you'd probably say "I stir coffee spoon'wise" or "I think head'wise" etc., so you would not have to say "I stir coffee with a spoon" or "I think with my head" :)

Thanks a lot for this video, I've been waiting a long time for this topic to be covered :). One thing I still find difficult is when to add the instrumental ending after a name. At 1:50, Ginger doesn't have the instrumental ending but Richard does... Is there a specific rule for names? Thanks a lot again for your great work :)

Great question! 😀 yes, there are some specific aspects about names (nice topic for the video btw 😁) Foreign female names, which end in consonant don’t get changed 🤷‍♀️

I see a lot of exceptions to быть/стать + instrumental. One recent example: «Просто какой-то мясник я стал.» But in Russian I’ve learned to accept the unknown 😂

Casual usage doesnt require using Instrumental with стать, if its a humorous touch like in your example, like "I turned into a butch". In 99% other situations, including all uses with "I became", requires Instrumental. Я стал мясником = I started working as butch. I became a butch. Быть needs no Instrumental, always Nominative. Я мясник. Never Я мясником. Other thing is Я был мясником, but it is Past Tense and literally means I was working as a butch. In Past Tense it is very widely used. You could also say Я был мясник, but it's never used widely and you will be replied with "В смысле был мясник? Работал мясником?"

Ideally you should add «с» to every noun, but when you speak you might avoid using «с» with all of them, if it’s a long list 😁 and in the case of сахар you might not hear preposition с because the word itself starts with the same letter 😬
