The guided bombs are interesting, they're basically a depth charge with a hydrodynamic guidance kit and an acoustic homing head. Cheap, reliable, and light, while having the same warhead. Curious how effective they'd be

Another advantage of the use of the Isotov TVX-117 series engines is logistics. They have powered the most produced helicopter, and several runners-up for that title, and thus are both still produced in huge numbers and have cheap parts in all corners of the globe

KA27 would be great for conversion into an unmanned helicopter... with AESA radar, carbon fibre panels and rotor blades, Vk2500 engines and improved gearbox.

I still believe this is one of the best navy helicopters. Compared with the other Chinese Navy helicopters, for example, it carries a lot more and for far longer than the Z-9. It is almost twice as short as the Z-20 and Z-18, so it takes a lot less space in a hangar (it is a bit wider, though). It shoots anti-ship missiles a lot further, so it can take out or at least frigates and corvettes. I can understand why the PLAN is phasing it out, I'm sure the old Soviet design has its issues. Shorter lifespan for the engines, worse ergonomics for the pilots, perhaps more time to deploy before flight. The avionics is probably obsolete, but it can be changed. The form is just insanely space-efficient, and perfect for smaller ships. I like how it looks. It is alien and exotic, even if it is not sleek. And I just like the looks of coaxial rotors, they are more symmetrical than regular tail rotor.

KA 27 have been modernized with new engine redesigned rotor blades, better anti sub warfare equipement, even versions with sonar and AWACS.
