I have loved this song for years, so many different things Jerry introduced me to. I think this is a great example of how wonderful and evocative and powerful a singer he was, the meaning he is somehow able to put into this song the way he sings it hits me like a baseball bat. I think he didn't get enough credit for the way he could tell a story in a song

Garcia is so unique. No one had the ability to pick notes or change time signitures. His knowledge of the fretboard and hand control are as good as the very best guitarists in clasical or even metal bands but he chose not to be flashy or a show off. Just pure love of the song and soul!

Irving Berlin. Jerome Kern said Irving doesn't just have a place in American music, he is American music. Mr. Berlin melded so many American genres into his compositions as he worked in NYC's tin pan alley in the early 1900's, black slave melodies and tones from the post-slavery south, jewish cantons from Europe, just wow. And of course Jerry and David are just amazing.

I will be 80 in July. My mother sang this song to me when I was a baby. Never heard the electrical Ukulele before. I live in that land today. And its ideal is threatened. Great rendition by the way.

I have some old bootlegged cassettes of Jerry Garcia playing this on the mandolin. But I have to say that David Grisman is equally as excellent in this version. But of course JG on the steel string acoustic is masterful!

A great way to phrase it. For example at 1:44sec, Garcia gives Dawg the universal 'its your turn to solo' head nod. Then takes the solo. LoLoLoL

Joking here now. No don't work. Just chill. Just relax. It's the best thing you can do if you think I'm serious you've got it wrong. Just lay way back. And let everyone do your work. JERRY WORKED. NO ONE COULD KEEP UP WITH HIM. NOW YOU KNOW.
