I don't think the pilot was dead on impact. The helicopter pitches upward significantly right at landing. It looks like the pilot is trying to perform an autorotation (helicopter emergency landing procedure). While it could just be coincidence, it would appear that the pilot was consciously flying the helicopter. My question is, why didn't he put the damn thing down sooner?

To those wondering why the pilot kept the helicopter flying, in one hand he did that in an futile attempt to put the fire off (increasing speed) and in the other hand probably keeping the chopper flying forward was the only way to prevent the flames from engulfing the cabin. I understand Ukrainians are fighting for their country, but we are here watching fellow humans, probably young lads with a family, suffering and dying, you must have a sick soul to enjoy it or find it funny.

I'm guessing the crew didn't realize how bad the fire was and thought they may be able to get the crippled bird back to friendly territory before putting her down (after all, she still had at least partial power and seemed airworthy for the first while). It was a costly error in judgement.

I see a lot of post about how long it stayed in the air, it's possible that the pilot was rendered incapacitated by the impact, it's also possible the pilot though as long as he continued forward progression that the flames would go backwards and spare him. My grandfather was in the army air corps during ww2 and it was something that pilots often tried . He said it wasn't very effective but every now and then it worked.

The pilot's did not want to be captured so they tried to get far away, but in the end it looks like it cost them there lives. When they could have set the helicopter down and saved the crew. Either the pilot was trying to get away from the area before landing for personal safety or for the safety of the helicopter or due to how lvl it then started flying it is possible the pilot was either killed or wounded badly in the missile hit

Ex US Army helicopter pilot here, WTF was he thinking?? He should have put it on the ground as soon as he got hit, right before he crashed it looks like engine failure with possible tail rotor failure. A helicopter will be fine without a tail rotor as long as your at about 40 knots or so, the slip stream will keep it straight, the tricky part is when you need to put it on the ground, you need to preform a running landing, you basically land it like a airplane, as soon as skids touch the ground you chop the throttle and dump the collective and hang on.

If they were highly complicated there would be no use for them. There are videos showcasing on what you have to do or even Google documents. I have no military experience. I see people in a burning helicopter, shot down by an invaded enemy. I don't believe either wanted to be in a war. From my 49 years of life its always the people sat at home safe ,sending the young people to die. I'm just sorry we haven't moved on and also grateful that I am safe because such threats are met. Hinds move relatively slowly, they are the most heavily armored helicopter in history, basically a flying tank, thats probably why it was easier for them to film it, also its being used as propaganda footage so they wanted to make sure the footage was good, thats why you will notice theres an insane number of new combat footage videos everyday from the ukraine and all these videos are being filmed by high quality drones with very good optics, because the ukraines now all this footage will make them look good and will help them re ceive more donations of weapons and money from other countries, half of war is propaganda and subterfuge.
