EXCELLENT first video! I just purchased 2 of these stoves for less than I could have purchased 1 Optimus 8R in clean condition and I'm stoked! I can hardly wait for them to get here to Texas from the Ukraine! I've subbed your channel. Thanks!

Valerifon1 hi from canyon lake. If the Optimus stove is the Volvo, Coleman stoves being a Ford F-150, the motor sicht pt-3 would be a panzer tank lol. Love this stove. 50$ make you holler lol.

I just received mine from the Ukraine today. Looked to be brand new except for being test fired. Mine fired right up and ran great. The seller included a metal fuel funnel, gaskets kit and the top burner plate as mentioned in this video. The heat and adjustment should be just right for my intended cooking usage. Glad I purchased mine.

I hadn't either until I started searching for a military alternative to the Coleman. Thanks for watching, I'm aiming to get at least a couple of vids out each week as I only really get a chance to film at the weekend.

Ah okay brilliant, look forward to seeing them. I'm on the hunt for the ultimate cook kit, as I have a while bunch of different sets and it's frustrating, bulky and heavy, I have the trangia stove and Danish pan set cooker system, trangia pot set that I use at the minute. Wish you could get a more meaty version of the bcb crusader cook set

Cheers Funky, its a great all rounder and should never fail but finds its limits in a group due to pot size limitation and conversely there's lighter stuff for solo gigs so I don't use it that often. Just love it's simplicity and engineering.

You should also de-pressurize the tank after you turn it off, then close it when it has cooled down, you should not get liquid come out of the jet when you are about to start it up to prime, which means you did not neutralise the pressure before starting it up, ( these are just my opinion, regarding your safety) the leak you have is caused by vapour getting passed the throttle washer, which is easy to replace ( Leather) hope all this helps you in some small way. enjoy your stove, they are brilliant.

The reports of these copy stove had bad reports, but having refurnished many for my customers, my view is they have been under rated, I found them to be very good against the Optimus, the only issue I have found is they put a flimsy bit of crepe bandage in the tank is not sufficient to draw the fuel to the vaporizing tube, but DO-NOT try to undo the nut on the tank as it has a very strong thread lock on it, but I have the means to get the nut out and change the wick. my number is further down the page if you want to contact me.

Never saw the trick of heating the tank with your hands before. Always used an eyedropper or a special detachable pump with a special cap. Good to know since the pump is expensive if you can find one at all.
@charlietango16355 жыл бұрын
you don't need a pump for these stoves, you will build up too much pressure

Man, my father has one of this for may years since he was in the army. Now he is almost 60years old. I am from Romania. The burner is still working ar this moment if I will open it. I tried this some years ago and was working great but the biggest issue is that I need a gasket/o-ring that is ok to be used in contact with the fuel. Not sure about NBR Shore 60 or other types, maybe you have an idea or someone what to recommend to use. And this is the only issue. I can use a normal gasket without a problem but after storage I should consider replacing it because it ripes off. I remember that in 1999 I was to the black see on a camping for one week and my parents cooked everyday with less than 1l of fuel (gas) with this burner for the entire week. It is a bit strange to see that you have a burning fire close to a fuel tank but the heat makes pressure to the fuel so it can burn better. It is amazing. I love Russians for this piece of "engineering". It really is a lifetime device, but too bad that these days things as strong like this will be never produced.
@paulob.73439 жыл бұрын
It`s a good stove witch needs a bit of practice, did yours came with a spare valve? can get a little dry after a few years of storage, so replace the valve. You will have to dismount the stove, pay attention to the needle position and mount it the same way ( if you notice a difference, try again). Use a little bit of fine oil (no spray) to insert the new one, tight a little the "screw, prime twice the stove until is very hot ( don start the stove!) and finish tightening until the lever barely moves, it should be fine after, with no leaks. In case you don have a spare, remove the valve, clean well the debris in the "neck"(will be some), invert the valve and mount everything again. Do you ever try Hexan, nafta (light version) or this "ecological* petrol brands ( made for your garden tools, etc...) they burn very clean, with almost no additives. they are a bit more expensive but a gallon will go a long way on this stove. Enjoy your Primus turistsky model, wich if correctly operated will be like a Russian women, temperamental but lovely!

I have one identical to that (It cost me a bomb to buy it and get it to country Australia from Bosnia or somewhere like that). Great video. Mine isn't as pristine as yours though. I'm a bit of a camping stove tragic. I have been using Coleman Petrol stoves for years and even have a Petrol Vietnam era American stove, similar to the one I used when I was in the Army as a lad in that era. I'm about to take a holiday in New Zealand with my Chinese wife and we travel economy class, haha! Aired out properly, this should go well in my luggage and serve us well for cheapskate meals while on the road. I couldn't remember how the valve worked, thanks for the info (I won't forget this time, I put the info under the lid in permanent marker. Great video, Thanks. I'll have to do a cooking video when I learn how to drive it properly. Do you know what size the spanner is? I will have to take one with me, my stove is missing this tool.

@TheDorsetWoodCleaver9 жыл бұрын
Hi John, like your coat I had to get it shipped from abroad (Bulgaria in this case despite it's origin being Russia). I found it on ebay. Its a copy of the Optimus 8R which you may have better luck finding your side of the pond. Both they're essentially the same so you can't go wrong whichever you find. Just need a little shielding in high wind until they heat up/get going then they're as impervious as a gas stove once at full blast.
@boulder899846 жыл бұрын
TheGearhead222 They were cheap on EBay but have gone up a lot. Found one a while back for $25 and 10 shipping. You have to watch and catch one when the prices are down. I would not pay over 45 total for one.

Can you use methylated spirits in it and where can I get the wee rubber seal in the on/off tap?
@charlietango16355 жыл бұрын
you can use methylated spirits to prime it, and use colemans fuel to put in the tank, but only half fill the tank, or the fuel will spit out of the jet.

Hi there, can you tell me please, do you know how long the stove will burn for on a full tank?? or can you only fill the tank to a certain level?? if so, how much should I put in.
@TheDorsetWoodCleaver9 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, very hard to answer how long as it depends on use the condition and thus efficiency of your one (most of them are rather old) and outside temperature etc. I always filled 2/3rds full to ensure there was air in the top of the tank, as it's this which expands, creates pressure and drives the stove. This amount tended to last a couple of days for simple boiling and cooking.
@charlietango1869 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. Ray

You need to just crack up that packing nut just a bit and it will stop that small leak coming out.

@charlietango16355 жыл бұрын
It is not because you had it on low, you just need to tighten the nut up just a little and that flame will go, do - not do it while it is on. and do-not use petrol, this is why you have soot all over your hands. I actually refurbish these stoves.

Where can I buy and what price should I pay?
@paulob.73439 жыл бұрын
I payed 25 € for mine, plus 6.50 for our national mail (Portugal), it came complete with funnel, adjust. key and a spare valve. Was unused and stored for several years. For what I know there is still a few around witch I can help to obtain. For people inside the European union the post expenses would "compensate", but to US and others would be to expensive. I have no profit on this (I don really need it) and I think that this objects are to be used and enjoyed, not stored! Happy walking and bushcraft!

+adam clark Hi Adam, I`m very pleased to inform you that I discover today another site in Portugal with the same stoves for 15 € a piece, the guy says that they have being stored new and unpacked for more than 20 years. Now if they were stored for that long the valves can be a bit dry and perhaps the stove body will be rusty. I already order one for a friend and we will see. If you have any problems with communication I can help. Link: olx.pt/anuncio/foges-a-gasolina-militares-IDuzZOd.html#2fe99fd4d8

+Paulo B. Actually today I did receive this stove sold by this seller, so 5 months after your comment he still got them. What an amazing stove! In perfectly new condition, still packed in original packing. About the rust, there was a tiny bit at the wrench, other than that in perfect condition. This batch was produced in 1993 as far as I can tell. The seller accepts Paypal and bank-transfer (when suggested) 27 euro including shipment in Europe 21 when shipped in Portugal. Paulo, thank you for sharing this link!
