Russian police detain hundreds at Moscow protest in support of journalist

Russian police said on Wednesday they had detained over 400 people, including opposition politician Alexei Navalny, at a protest in Moscow calling for punishment for police officers involved in the alleged framing of journalist Ivan Golunov.
But his supporters went ahead with a protest on Wednesday, a public holiday in Russia, despite being warned by the authorities that their demonstration would be illegal.
Police abruptly dropped drugs charges a day earlier against journalist Ivan Golunov, a rare reversal by the authorities in the face of anger from his supporters who said he was framed for his reporting.

The protest was in support of the jailing of Ivan Golunov Russian investigative journalist, falsely accused for production of drugs. Investigative journalists, opposition politicians and activists face physical and financial repression for exposing corruption, human rights violation. False cases are fabricated against them. The government regularly comes up with vague laws that are aimed as limiting the freedom of speech and gathering. The same people are ruining Russia since the fall of USSR. They created a state run by family clans that operate like crime syndicates, plagued by systemic corruption. Those in power not only accept corruption but expect it as a package that comes with loyalty to the regime. The regime controls all media outlets and sedates the people with propaganda. It discourages people form protesting by on one hand, sending a message that the overwhelming majority is happy and supports the regime, and the unhappy are an insignificant minority. On the other hand the regime makes sure to beat, fine and jail every expression of public descent. Even one man protests are quickly "taken care of".
