They make wonderful music and were for a long time the benchmark for other metalbands. They were maybe at there highest point before the 'Black Album' (Nothing Else Matters). Albums like ' Ride the Lighting' and 'Master of Puppets' are gold. If you these, maybe you like the band Мастер. ( Щит и мет and Руки Прочь) Maybe one of the best results of Metalica's influence in the Soviet Union. Love your show.

You should check out a video called VH1 Behind The Music Metallica. You will feel like you know these guys personally and know their story. There's a reason Metallica has been part of my life since 1981. The guys from Metallica are just normal people like you and me. They just happen to be very famous.

4:46 That's a double neck 1 piece guitar. Upper neck is 12 String you generate richer sound when you strum a chord but not good solo playing. Lower is standart 6 string. That is invented for not to change guitar during a live performance. You can see it also in Led Zeppelin's live performance to Stairway to Heaven. And Bon Jovi's live performance for Wanted dead or alive, there is a triple version of it.

The double neck guitar is a 6 string and 12 string, very cool guitar! I'm sure you've reacted to their Enter Sandman song for over 1.6 million people in Moscow in 1991! It was actually pretty cool to see even the military get into it! They did their best providing security, but in the end I think they just wanted to hear the great music as did the Russian youth! I'm not sure if the crowd was all Russian, but it's not easy creating a major production like that! Metallica in the early 80's with James Hetfield-guitars/lead vocals, Lars Ulrich-drums(tiny guy, but good drummer), Kirk Hammett-lead guitar, and Cliff Burton-bass! Sadly, Cliff died when their tour bus crashed traveling in Sweden! The bass player you see in this video is Jason Newstead who replaced Cliff! Jason was in the band for a long time but left and Robert Trujillo became their current bass player! I would love to see you react to some of my favorite bands: Journey, Kansas, Boston, Styx, Toto, Rush! All of these bands have a ton of hits so I recommend checking out their greatest hits albums for song titles!

Cool review. The multi neck guitar is a normal 6 string on the bottom and 12 string on the top which has extra strings to add more depth to the sound. You also reviewed Metallica in Moscow around a year ago.

one thing I must mention about metal music is bands typically take their time with the instrumentals, in some instances instrumentals can be +1 minute long, which is why metal songs are 2-3 times longer than pop songs. but I must point out, the instrumentals in metal can tell you a story all their own, so it's best just to close your eyes and let it take you on a journey. I hope you enjoy your trip down the Metallica rabbit hole!

That is a double neck guitar. The top neck is usually just has the standard six strings while the bottom neck (in this case) has 12 strings for a fuller sound. Also, is it just me or is your mic audio really low in this video?

Hey Irina, in answer to your question about the double neck guitar that James had If you'd noticed that the top neck is a 12-string setup and the bottom one is a 6-string setup, these are pretty common and there's numerous varieties of double neck guitars

Back in the 70s, Metallica was the only rock band that successfully stuck around. People gave up on rock and then a whole bunch of rock bands, including independent rock or Indie rock, popped up with heavy metal and death metal becoming the new trends. Metallica was still successful all along and is still a popular band today. With the advent of the electric guitar, rock took off to stay forever. Country musicians say that country lost its soul to the electric guitar. Electric guitar says well I talk to the young. What was the reason behind the rise of independent rock? That's another story.

Metallica is an interesting choice. But, if you're interested in learning how the band originally impacted their audience, you need to go back farther than their "Black" album (It's called the Black album because it was untitled, and the album cover was black, with a barely visible, coiled rattlesnake [the same image as can be found on the old flags of the American colonies, along with the phrase, "Don't Tread On Me!"]) as most people who were fans of the group were in agreement that the "Black" album was the first time that Metallica was starting to get "soft", and that the "real" Metallica was a lot harder (louder) in their earlier albums. Personally, I think their earlier works had a few good songs, like "Master of Puppets". But I guess I'm just another "poser", too, because I liked (and still do like) their "Black" album the best...lol Edit: Maybe listen to the song "Don't tread on me", which is on the same album as "Nothing else matters" -- that is, the "Black" album.

Fancy foot pedals were not available back then [early 90s], but most guitarists use foot pedals now to change guitar sounds instead of double - or even triple [Steve Vai - Teeth of the Hydra] - neck guitars these days.
