Okay! I just want to clarify that I am not a biologist and was speaking pretty casually about carnivores and dogs having emotions. I definitely could have thought more about that topic before speaking about it. I don’t recommend taking any advice from me concerning such topics. Cheers! Correction: the breeds of dog that are eaten on the Korean peninsula is the Nureongi and Hwanggu, not the Jindo. That’s a big correction! Saying Koreans eat Jindos is like saying Americans eat bald eagles for Thanksgivings: it’s not just wrong, it’s bat-shit insane. The Jin Island dog is considered a national treasure - specifically, it’s National Treasure Number 53, because Koreans like to number things - and no Korean would ever voluntarily eat one.

Aztecs ate dogs because they had only dogs and turkeys. I am not sure about Korea, but the reason why Indians are vegetarian is that they do not have enough land for husbandry, i China they ate pork, because pig can be kept in a pen. A cow needs a lot of space. I think that behind the dog meat could be poverty. It is like snakes or insects or snails...a source of proteins. I could be wrong.

Finland has always understood and kept themselves strong. Estonia and Latvia and Lithuania and Poland understand. Unfortunately Germany and France either don't understand, or their politicians have been bought by Russian money. It's great to see Jake agreeing with Trump that Europe needs to do a lot more for their own defence (including defense of Ukraine) -- except no, they don't have the next four years to put that in order. They've already HAD almost three years -- more than ten years if they'd paid attention to the annexation of Crimea, the infiltration of Donbas, and the shooting down of MH17. The USA has been failing Ukraine the last three years under Biden/Harris, Europe and Ukraine can't afford that to continue under Harris/Walz. Will Trump really be so much worse? I doubt it. If he gets Western Europe to finally wake up then he'll do a lot of good -- he was TRYING to in his first term There is plenty of video of Trump telling europeans they have to spend more on their own defence, telling them of the stupidity of making themselves dependent on Russian gas. He's not stupid. But the current ridiculous extreme divisiveness over in the US means Jake and people like him somehow feel they have to convince us that their political opponents are the devil, fascists, on the side of the West's enemies etc.
@adoatero5129Ай бұрын
- "as a Finn, i have never thought my safety is somehow connected who may win the US election." Well, now it's connected, whether you like that or not. - "Our safety was always about us as people, our own nation." I like your attitude, but if you with "was always about" mean that no other (non-enemy) country affected the security of Finland positively, it's simply not true. What is true is that Finnish defense has been strong after the second world war, and relatively independent. Successfully defending against Russia would still have been a sort of Pyrrhic victory, as Finland would probably have suffered terrible destruction. - "We have only 1 enemy, and we have been preparing to fight them alone if shtf." Alone is relative. At the minimum Finland would always have needed a huge amount of materiel support in the case that that "1" enemy attacked. Anyway, there hasn't been a need to fight alone for a while, as Finland has had defense pacts and close military coordination with other Nordic countries for quite some time already, and with joining NATO Finland achieved the situation where it likely doesn't have to fight at all. It's enough to keep up the strong defense and enjoy the safety that the world's strongest military alliance, NATO, brings.
@adoatero5129Ай бұрын
@@BruceHoult - "Will Trump really be so much worse? I doubt it. If he gets Western Europe to finally wake up then he'll do a lot of good -- he was TRYING to in his first term" I'm sorry, but you have been fooled. Trump is a liar, a conman and only cares about himself. Trump trashes democratic countries and praises dictators, because he wants to be a dictator himself. The European allies of the USA are democracies, so he trashes them. That's why raised up (and distorted) the matter of defense budgets (he claimed that the European NATO members didn't pay their "NATO bills") He mostly says what he thinks gets him support among his mislead audience. He listens to what his audience dislikes or has prejudice against, and fuels those feelings until they grow to hate. The easiest way to get people to follow you is to fill them with hate, and then tell them that only you can make the target of their hate suffer. It's an ancient trick, but it still works because new fools are born every day and the old and wise die. Haven't you really noticed how much Trump lies? Almost all of what he says publicly is either a lie or heavily distorted (you can't know, though, unless you know something about those matters yourself). Trump cheated his contractors and participants to his "university", cheated (heavily) on taxes and sexually attacked and abused women. Does that sound like a trustworthy person who puts the country above himself. Are you going to vote for that person to be the president of the USA (if you are an American). - "There is plenty of video of Trump telling europeans they have to spend more on their own defence" Actually both Bushes and Clinton did that too. The only unique thing about Trump doing that is his motive: to rile up his supporters.

@CMY187Ай бұрын
@@gordybishop2375 It isn’t really about gaining land. Apparently this is due to the unusual nature of the Russian autocratic political system and culture, be it Tsarist, Soviet or the current Putin regime: Russian autocratic leaders cannot remain in power without starting or becoming involved in wars. It's not about acquiring land, it's about consolidating power at home. For some reason, in a way that is unusual even for autocratic regimes (not all of them have to invade their neighbors to stay in power), Russian Tsars, Soviet general secretaries and now Russian Presidents (including Yeltsin who started the First Chechen War) HAVE to start or get involved in wars (Putin intervening in Syria to support Assad) to prevent the other elites in the Kremlin from slowly taking their power away from them. Tsar Nicholas the Second started the Russo-Japanese War to consolidate his power after his regime had become highly unpopular, and when Russia lost that war he barely survived the revolution that followed. Then he decided to get involved in World War One to support Serbia, again because as always Russian leaders MUST start wars to remain in power. It's something that I find fascinating about Russia. Why can't they just oppress and rob their own people and live comfortably in the Kremlin? Why are Russian regimes throughout history so unstable? The best Russian leader of all time is Catherine the Great, and even she needed to invade and conquer other countries to maintain her power in Saint Petersburg.

The problem with Europe standing up for its own security is that Europe doesn't have a union government. The issue is not resources but leadership. It is like imagining not having the federal government in the USA and instead outsourcing it to the state governments to agree on a defense policy.

@@GanymedeXD Like i said, the practice and the tolerance of consuming dog meat is derived from confucianism, a political philosophy and morals and ethics from china which is no longer practiced in korea, with the north practicing communism and the south practicing a liberal democracy. That fact that you only state "folk" practice of it but not where it derived from and the internal analysis of this tradition, hypocritically contradicts your statement that i got this information from youtube. There is a reason why Japan (speaking as a half danish half japanese) have historically not practiced dog meat consumption, and countries of the sinosphere (except vietnam, which has been part of china in ancient times for milleniums) which wanted to gain access to china's self sufficient market and military support, practiced confucianism as a way to gain political legitamcy.

@philiptownsend4026Ай бұрын
Carnivores eating other carnivores is relatively rare in the natural world for several reasons, and there are both benefits and drawbacks to it. Potential Benefits Nutritional Value: Carnivores tend to have a high-protein, high-fat composition, which can provide a concentrated energy source. For certain animals, eating other carnivores can be an effective way to meet their energy requirements. Ecological Balance: Some apex predators will occasionally eat other carnivores to control competition within their ecosystem. For example, wolves might prey on coyotes to limit competition for food. Drawbacks Bioaccumulation and Toxins: Carnivores often have higher levels of bioaccumulated toxins, such as heavy metals and chemicals, due to the food chain. This is especially common in aquatic ecosystems where predators like tuna and swordfish contain higher levels of mercury. Risk of Disease: Carnivores are more likely to carry pathogens that can be transmitted through consumption, such as prions responsible for diseases like mad cow disease, which affects mammals that consume infected tissue. Resource Cost: Carnivores generally require more energy and effort to capture compared to herbivores, which are often more abundant. This makes hunting other carnivores less efficient for energy gain. In most cases, carnivores instinctively avoid preying on other carnivores unless driven by circumstances like scarcity of prey or territory defense. For humans, for instance, this is why most meat consumption focuses on herbivores or omnivores rather than carnivorous species.

While I am pro-ukrainian, it's a tragedy that any of these people had to disappear because of one man's delusions. This travesty is not only affecting two countries. It's sending ripples across the universe. Even affecting things in space. Currently. More than sad, more than evil

Canadian English Teacher 20 years in Korea and I heard it was a practice that was started because dogs were less valuable in the early farming community than cows.... but I could certainly be wrong

Korea as a cultural doctrine doesnt mention to eat dogs as much as the west does. Sure, the chinese confucian political philosophy did mention dog consumption, But that was a sinocentric philosophy that served to maintain peace in east asia before the introduction of globalization and imperialism of the west. Since the opening of korea in 1876, and the release from 12 years of chinese vassalage after the sino japanese war in 1895 , Korea integrated into the capitalist modern world and abolished medievalist feudal serfdom and sucessfully distanced itself from pre modern sinocentric confucianism in favor for late modern anglo-saxon political philosophy. Chinese cultural doctrines and standards do mention eating dogs and still do practice it. My point was that confucianism is a foreign political philosophy to the likes of Greco-roman political philosophies . It's not inseperable like for example a religion when practiced by a foreign country other than china. Confucianism is ultimately the source of the dog eating stereotype, so my point was its been completely seperated from both koreas since 1895.

There's lots of examples of carnivores eating carnivores: hyenas eating lions and vice versa. Anything eating fish (which are also cannibalistic). Birds eating snakes and carrion. Herbivores eating birds. Everything eats everything!

I think he's referring to _mammalian_ carnivores. The carnivorous mammals that eat other carnivores regularly, like hyenas, have special digestive systems made for processing diseased flesh that would incapacitate other species

You are on the right track, but your comment is mostly wrong. Just google tertiary consumers. Carnivore consuming carnivore is quite rare and only few exist. Killing is not equal eating. Tiger, Fox and Black Panther are the examples. Well, we can add ruzzians to the list now, although they are more into cannibalisms.

He is just a regular human that inherited 40 million slaves. As regular human, human nature comes out. Help his people? He does help his people. He has his people (1% of north Koreans) and he has slaves.
