A few decades ago HMS conqueror stole the towed-array off the back of a Soviet sub using a nose mounted set of grabbers and cutters (what an audacious mission!) - the Soviets were thought to have the best towed-array in the world and the Brits apparently learned a lot of valuable secrets from the stolen kit. Today the towed-array developed for the Royal Navy by Thales is considered to be the best (it's not for export sale) - I suspect the Russians wanted a chunk for themselves and got it - Great Britain 1 - Russia 1.

That's pretty ballsy considering no one would be rescuing them if they got stuck on the bottom. "Ouch "

I like how they came to the assumption they've been hit after 0.5 seconds of investigation.... I mean, the British can never be wrong right? Thats Russian aggression right there!

Fiction, merely a training exercise on show, and media making most of it. Royal navy sonar, radar and most equipment is world class. Doubt this would happen unless on purpose. Accidents don't happen. Russians admire the Royal navy the most, not only for their kit, but their professionalism, and enjoy a wee bit of kat and mouse
@wonderingthoughts9263 жыл бұрын
You should watch the full episode on channel 5, not a training exercise at all 👍🏼

The collision disabled the sonar, the ship had to return to port for repairs.

Surely you don't have to be that close to let them know they've been found? Why go parallel what if the sub turned left or right?
@davidd55232 жыл бұрын
Actually you do. And if the sub turns left or right is shouldn't be a problem. They pass under you.
