I totally agree with you about the interlinear text! I'm still a beginner in russian but I've learned finnish (which follows the same cases structure but it's a bit more complicated since the words can completely change due to cases) and this was the best method! At first it's hard to understand the whole sentence, but it got easier and easier until I finally started discovering the patterns and understanding why such word was in the form and place in the sentence. The great thing about interlinear reading is that it can be done by everyone, in every level of the language! Since we always have something new to learn in those, from vocab to the most complicated part of grammar. Anyway, I've loved your video as always, thank you!! ❤

Thank you so much for your comment and for sharing your experience of using interlinear texts. This method is simple but really powerful. And it's true that one can use it on any level. I boosted my French vocabulary a lot with this method, and I noticed that I learned many words really effortlessly and naturally. It looks weird at first but it helps a lot 😉

ENGLISH TRANSLATION TRANSCRIPTION Snow had been falling since the morning. The bear cub was sitting at the margin of the forest on a little stub, his head was thrown up, and he was counting and licking the snowflakes that fell on his nose. Snowflakes were falling sweet, fluffy and, before coming down completely, they were raising themselves on tiptoes. Oh, how fun it was! «Seventh», - whispered the bear cub and, admiring it to his hearts content, he licked his nose. But the snowflakes were enchanted: they did not melt and continued to remain the same fluffy in the stomach of a bear cub. «Oh, hello, lovey-dovey! - said six snowflakes to their girlfriend when she appeared next to them. - Is it always windless in the forest? Is the bear cub still sitting on a little tree stub? Oh, what a funny bear cub!» The bear cub heard that someone in his stomach was talking, but did not pay attention. And the snow kept falling and falling. Snowflakes more and more often fell on the nose of a bear cub, were sitting down and were saying with a smile: «Hello, Bear cub!» “Very pleased, - said the Bear cub. «You are sixty-eighth.» And he licked his lips. By the evening, he ate three hundred snowflakes, and he dreamed that he was a fluffy, soft snowflake ... and that he came down on the nose of some bear cub and said: «Hello, Bear cub!» - and in response he heard: «Very pleased, you are three hundred and twentieth.» ... Pam -pa- ra - pam! - the music started playing. And the Bear cub spun around in a sweet, magical dance, and three hundred snowflakes spun around with him. They gleamed in front, behind, on the side, and when he got tired, they grabbed him, and he spun, spun around.. Bear cub was ill all winter. His nose was dry and hot, and snowflakes were dancing in his stomach. And only in the spring, when eavesdrop rang throughout the forest and birds flew in, he opened his eyes and saw the Hedgehog on the stool. The hedgehog was smiling and moving the spines. - What are you doing here? - asked the Bear. - I’m waiting for you to recover, - answered the Hedgehog. - How long? - All winter. - Is that so? - Yes, - said the Hedgehog. - As I learned that you overate snow, immediately transferred all my supplies to you ... - And you have been sitting next to me on a stool the whole winter? - Yes, I gave you a fir tisane to drink and applied dried grass to your stomach ... - I don’t remember, - said the Bear cub. - Of course! - the Hedgehog sighed. “You were repeating all winter that you were a snowflake. I was so afraid that you would melt by spring! .. Sent by Talia

They will help children and adults discover the world of goodness and love - a real world in which we will always be! This Russian story is adapted using a method of interlinear text. I've been learning Russian for years and yet this text is too difficult, meaning that ideally we shouldn't have to be checking for the translation of every word or every sentence. Experts say that reading is more efficient for language development when it is 98% comprehensible or more.
@hackyourrussian4091

Thank you for your comment. I believe that the only type of reading that can be read without any translation is a direct reading (but it's rather new and not very popular). If it's not your native language you will anyway encounter some unknown words. This is a children's story, therefore vocabulary and grammar are not complicated. Moreover, many words are repeated throughout the text which makes it easier to memorize them. If you have been learning Russian effectively for years (not just by learning words with Duolingo), you should be capable to understand at least 80% of this text. These are really basic words that you can actually use in everyday life.

@@hackyourrussian4091 it takes a lot of experience for teachers to know how to write reading materials for all levels (specially for the lowest levels). Whenever I've told a teacher that their texts were too difficult for me to understand, every single time their first reaction was denial. I was wrong, the texts were not so hard. So it was my fault. Okay... fine.

Excuse me but I know what I am talking about. And I agree that some children's stories can be really difficult for language learners. But I assure you that I have chosen a story with simple vocabulary. And as I wrote, it's perfectly fine that you find new words, this is the purpose of reading these interlinear texts - to learn new words. There are polyglots who can learn a language just by reading such texts without any prior knowledge of the language.

@@Blueaspen391 I see what you mean. I create my own texts for podcasts (Elementary Podcast). But this one is not mine and I used it as an example to show how interlinear texts work. I didn't change a single word as I believe that I have no right to do that. Moreover, there are many people who want to learn Russian with original texts. And while I would never suggest even an Intermediate student to read any classical novels, reading such simple stories is quite a good practice in my experience. Again, you are not supposed to understand everything from the beginning.
