@@maddhatter3564, Yea, no one really knows! They say it can bounce off the top of earth atmosphere, but cant make it into space! It ain't going fast enough to leave ! Then , speed comes from a few different factors. After burn brings the temp up to high on a fighter because of the materials used in a fighter for expenses! Need a thousand fighters,,, need 10 Blackbirds. Cost is not a factor! I could only guess but , all speeds are the safe speeds for our fighters to cruise at. But need be to get out of a hostile environment, they could keep it full afterburner, go from mach 2, hit mach 3 , fry the engines, and still not hurt the airframe. Then theres ,, dont let your enemies know your strengths!

Real or not, the plane exists and was in use as a spy plane that flew hier and faster the anything that was thrown at it. It wasn't a fighter plane, so its only defense was to go hier and faster than the enemy when being approached. So, to the people who believe this video is real, it's not their fault because the plane is real.

Technically fighters also outrun missiles if they're outside the MAR, as long as they can dive to the deck and give the missiles a few turns they can run it out of energy before it reaches them. The MAR (Minimum Abort Range) depends on the missile and several other factors, but the MAR for an AIM-120C-7 is of the order of 10 nautical miles on the deck, even though its range might be 65 or more nautical miles. The cool thing about the Blackbird is, it can outrun missiles at high altitude.

When I was flying in the Navy I took off behind a Blackbird in Okinawa. It went to full blower during its roll and I'll never forget how its afterburner reflected off the runway at rotation. I believe they could take off with full fuel load and did at times early in the program, but it was hard on the tires needing higher roll speed and also dangerous being so heavy so slow at such low altitude and unable to fly should they lose an engine that this was not done routinely. I worked in the J-58 overhaul section at P&W and this was by far my favorite motor...just a beast.
@MG25772 ай бұрын
It actually left with a full tank but it leaked...refilled in the air and once it hit a curtain speed the plane would heat up AND "stretch" enough to seal the tanks and the rest of the bird.
@recoilrob3242 ай бұрын
@@MG2577 Yes...they DID leak on the ground, but also rarely tried to take off with a full fuel load due to the issues mentioned above. There was no reason to stress the tires and risk the aircraft with a heavy fuel load when they had a tanker orbiting above ready to fill them up for the mission. Also the fuel used to start, taxi then climb to altitude was considerable so refueling before starting the mission increased the range by quite a bit.
