Why is it i get two different names with plates?? Plata and tarelka?? Which one is is the most common?

тарелка is the right form. плата comes directly from english ("plate") and it is used when speaking about computer motherboard, for example. moreover, in daily speaking плата actually means "payment" (from the verb платить = to pay)
