Their experiences with the collapse of the USSR, the resulting political and economic upheavals, and finally autocracy make for some hardy (and wise) folk. The fact they can smile, shrug, and keep going is a testament to the human spirit. I love this channel. 👍

They could smile and do things on their own, they had freedom, the necessary freedom. I've spoken to a few that have come here to Panama and they've told me that their freedom was just the necessary. They could smile, there was nothing wrong with it, but people had to continue with their lives, maybe at a family dinner or with friends they laughed, but they didn't necessarily had to show emotion to everyone in the streets.

It is very difficult to break down the barrier between these different worlds, because the barrier has been supported by both sides for many centuries. Nor would it be good to completely disregard the essence of one world or try to eradicate features. The complete victory of only one world over another here will be wrong. Here you need a cunning combination that will help the worlds understand the essence of each other.
@jarivuorinen38782 жыл бұрын
@@fgjjdgb3949 You are right that breaking the barrier is difficult and slow process. Even in West Germany it took one generation after ww2 before they started to understand and regret their country's dark past. But I disagree that Russians were always trapped in their own bubble. They actually had some years of democracy, freedom of press and access to unfiltered outside information when Soviet Union collapsed. What hindered that development was largely bad state of affairs for many many Russians, because those years were also times of great theft, rise of oligarchs and high crime rate. Common man was left with very little. I know that this matter is more nuanced but it's in short how I see it. Putin was great new leader because he brought at least some prosperity to Russians. He's liked president in Russia to this day for what he did after Yeltsin. Unfortunately Hitler had similar success story, he brought prosperity and was generally perceived as good leader.
@fgjjdgb39492 жыл бұрын
@@jarivuorinen3878 Lord, you have understood and interpreted everything correctly. I will only add that the entire Western world does not want to understand and study Russia. This is facilitated by centuries-old competition and conflict, it is easier for people to think about Russia as old clichés of propaganda, without delving into the essence of things and relying on the correctness of the Soviet ideology and the incorrectness of the Russian way of life, the result: Russian or tyrant or slave. The whole world knows about the United States and Europe from popular culture and no one knows how ordinary people outside moscow and St. Petersburg live and think about. No one is interested in "poor Russians", they can only be pitied or laughed at their incorrectness. This is what I see as a serious problem, the world of the West does not want to understand, it wants to win and remake it for itself.

The man at 5:59 says that foreigners don't understand banja and ice water jumping. We actually love that here in Finland, but there are few differences. Our version of banja is sauna, it has lower humidity and higher temperature usually. Hole in the ice is sometimes just for dipping yourself there, but many times it's big enough for multiple people to actually swim around. This is very popular in Finland. The war was provoked by the European government with its NATO incapacity in relations with Russia. The Latin-speaking population of the planet lives in a comfort zone under the pacifist slogan "people should live in peace", meaning "to be vegetables". And then a Nazi goat appeared, he walks and nibbles Ukrainian vegetables. Each of the vegetables does not worry until they start eating it. Russia is trying to grab the horns. In modern Russia, everything is the same, but there is a popular leader and an army with universal military duty, which instills the concept of "defender of the fatherland" in vegetables. Russian men are defenders of the Fatherland. The army helps a person to wake up - it is a way out of the comfort zone, a reason to think, to choose a life path. Ukraine has been anarchic for more than 20 years, the next government did not justify it... election commitments have not been fulfilled. Ukrainians are tired of the results of anarchy, but there is no one to believe. That is why many Ukrainians are impressed by what they do not have - European unity.
@okatzl3692 жыл бұрын
@@denijara4715 at least we agree its a war. The invader, Russia, is responsible for the deaths that are happening now. They invaded. If they wanted, the Kremlin could have persued a diplomatic solution at the UN or tried to use intermediary countries to negotiate and to monitor the situation more closely. The failings of NATO are documented in the Western press too - mostly in the left-leaning or left publications (try The intercept or Jacobin Mag as well as others). However, it seems likely that this was a pretext. NaTO is defensive, not offensive. And the trolls and bots from Russia, as well as funding support European and North American far right parties (Orbán... is one of them but he is Russia-friendly so I guess Putin is ok with that ). So iI don't understand why Russia is so afraid of 2,000 people in Ukraine. It's obviously a problem but killing thousands of Russians and non-nazi Ukrainians is not the solution. Also, it's just an excuse. (Hi to the Male State) If Russia was so worried about the nazis why don't they support left wing candidates who were against NATO? Violence as an ideology is fine when you are a keyboard warrior... no hackers or troll farm members are gonna lose their lives. War and violence is terrible. For all involved. It's just sending young (mostly men) to kill other young (mostly men). The battle field makes them do terrible things, civilians are killed. Those who survive will have injuries to their bodies or soul. It's pointless in the end. But it is easier to send them if you are sitting in a Bunker or hq far away from it all, I guess. The failings of the international community are many. But no one takes the blame of the aggressors actions except the aggressor themselves.

@@b2hibry я думаю, это был горький юмор. У многих людей в России за пределами крупных мегаполисов до сих пор нет газа и туалета. Мы все это знаем. И знаем почему. У вас есть гетто. У нас гетто - целые города и села.

Love you dear Russians! You're not so different as you seem to think. Why to look for differences instead of similarities? Russia should be one with Europe. But not with Putin! It's time for a new era for Russia! A golden bridge between East and West.

I really find your videos interesting, keep them coming. But what I find frustrating is that as a Canadian, I can say whatever I like about my government, without fear of repercussions. I just get the sense that Russian ppl are either not engaged or holding back. I think they are not engaged becuz they feel their voice has no impact. And that’s sad.
@publicenemy93262 жыл бұрын
you can say anything about your government and that's fine, but the main thing here is that your words be heard and they do as you want. Canadians rallied over rising fuel prices? if so, have they achieved any results?

As a person from Russia, I know that Canada is as cold as Russia, has convenient laws for emigrants, was also a colony of Britain as a huge part of the world, and that Canada has several official languages. Also I like Canadian flag, lol. About Canada and US: I feel that both are interesting countries with bright and not that bright moments in history, with wonderful people who can make mistakes, as all other people, but I don't know specialties of Canada's relations with the US, it eems that they have strong historical connections, but I better wouldn't tell about something that I have no clue about. I think that the countries are different in some points, of course, but I neither view Americans anyhow bad, nor Canadians

I’ve travelled throughout the Americas, Caribbean, UK, and Europe. In addition I live in a very multicultural area with immigrant communities from Russia, the ME etc. I don’t find the Russian mentality much different from others. Almost everyone wants peace, prosperity, family, friends, access to education etc. what I do find different in cultures is peoples’ breadth in terms of understanding others. It seems that countries with a religious fundamentalists or autocratic bases tend to keep their people in dark, probably for their own purposes.

Interesting, I feel this strange bizarre pull to the US as well. I mean, if I had to choose between US and Eu, I would undoubtedly go with the US. Maybe it's some prior conflicts history, the size of the country, imperialistic policy of the government? I dunno, but I think the Americans are more honest and likable in general

The 12th question is the one who defines evrything. They have different mindsets than ours, they are different than us. That's the problem, you shouldn't try to Westernize everything, because because of that cultures are disappearing and people don't really know why they are/were like this or that, why are their national foods hiw they are, etc.
