When June describes Marc, his actions sounds like he is a little boy. I understand he was popular in the UK, but not in America.

Marc Bolan didn't have much of a vocal range. He wasn't that great off a singer. Brian Connolly and Sweet were much better than Marc and T-rex. Marc Bolan, had a one hit wonder"Bang a Gong".

It's true that Marc didn't have a great voice but he did make the most of it. In terms of success in the UK, T.Rex were significantly more successful than Sweet in every possible category. They had 4 no 1s compared to the Sweet who just had 1. Saying that, both were great bands and enlivened the 70s massively.

@@russsmiff1 on the top 100 hits in America, the Song by Marc Bolan and T-rex charted at number 56. Marc was a great poet and word Smith, but he was only popular in his own back yard in the UK. He was definitely no Eddie Van Halen.

I mean the song, Bang a Gong charted at number 56 in America in 1972.

I agree with what you say Deborah. He wouldn't have wanted to be compared with Van Halen though as Marc was treading a different path. His popularity extended across Europe and beyond and in fact has been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. His legacy is a huge influence on many subsequent artists and his music is widely used in movies, advertising, etc. I think his best was yet to come and 29 was no age to die. He would have been a megastar had he lived though it could be argued he still is.
