Mal, on your follow up video, mention the stages for the potatoes before you harvest them. From the 1st min. Seed, 5th min. Seedling, 10th min. Sapling, 19th min. Crossbreed (very short stage), 21st min. Mature Stage, 114th min. Fruiting (that's when you see potatoes. Lastly an hour and 54 mins. in the Ripe stage begins. That's when you can harvest the potatoes. BTY, I notice if you have more G= Growth Speed, it will speed up the process. Also, 1 Y=Yield gives you 1 more potato, and 2 Y=Yield gives you 2 more potato at harvest, most of the time. [BLDRZ] Pinoysaboteur @ BLDRZ Vanilla Mod PvE Server.

Is there a guide on picking crops ? Depending on what stage of growth gives which results and at what percent ?
@Malonik4 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of... You can only pick them once they are fruiting or ripe. During the fruiting stage if you look at the plant it will tell you how many you'll get and that grows throughout the fruiting stage. Once the number in brackets gets above the .5 decimal point it counts that as an extra whole in the harvest. I haven't tested it out when you're cloning your plants but as far as harvesting goes that's definitely how it works.
@Dizzyegg054 жыл бұрын

All i've wanted in this game was a more robust farming system, i've always tried to build a greenhouse as part of my bases as to not have to be out in the open to get animals as a source of food. im wondering if there are other bonuses to farmed food over wild ones, like does heartiness increase a food's hunger restoration ability? Either way, this will mark my return to the game, just gonna find an empty server and farm, its my rust dream come true

I'm wracking my head around trying to get a perfect clone. I can get as far as having 3 Y slots but then to breed into those it would over-write the Ys I have. If I have a X - Y - Y - X - Y - X clone and a Y - X - X - X - X - X Clone, how do I breed the 1 slot Y into the first clone without over-writing any of Y's in the other slots? It's complicated. Is it possible to make a 6 slot Y clone?
@Mekose4 жыл бұрын
Also does the placement matter? Do I have to put them adjacent to each other to crossbreed? Do they crossbreed diagonally? Do I just have to put as many good genetics as I want into the planter and hope they take over?
@Malonik4 жыл бұрын
As far as our testing goes they seem to take on whatever gene is predominantly surrounding it. I'm currently doing tests on genetics so I can get an advanced genetics guide together to help people figure it out. We've gotten pretty close, predicting 5 of the 6 genes correctly. Not quite there yet though.
@Malonik4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure they can take genes from any they are directly connected to and that includes diagonally.
@Mekose4 жыл бұрын
@@Malonik I've been testing by placing good clones (such as 5 green 1 red) on the four corners, letting them mature past the crossbreed phase so I don't accidentally ruin that strain, and then placing the clone I want to breed in the center. I've not quite figured out how but I believe I can get a 6 green using this method if I use four different 5 green clones with reds on different slots so they don't over-take any gene in the center clone. Step 1: place 5 green clones in the four corners. Step 2: Let reach mature. This protects them from taking any red genes from the center clone allowing you to retry infinitely. Step 3: Place a clone in the center you wish to crossbreed. An issue comes up here where if any of the four corner clones have a red gene where there isn't more than 1 of the same green gene in that slot, the red gene will overtake. For example, if one corner clone has an X in slot one, and each of the other corner clones have a Y, G, and H in slot 1; then the X will over-take the slot 1 of the center clone. The trick is to find enough 5 green clones that share the same gene in the same slot. For example. If two of the corner clones have a Y in slot 1 and while one corner clone has an X or a W in slot one; then the Y will overtake the gene in the center clone's slot 1. I think the formula for a perfect 6 green clone would go as follows: X - Y - Y - Y - Y - Y Y - X - Y - Y - Y - Y Y - Y - X - Y - Y - Y Y - Y - Y - X - Y - Y Y - Y - Y - Y - X - Y Obviously this will be extremely difficult to find but using this method you can turn multiple clones into a 6 green gene clone and then from there you should be able to safely breed in more Y's without the risk of red genes over-taking green genes. I've not yet figured out how to breed 2 and 3 red genes out, the more red genes the harder it is to breed safely. I'm sure there's a way to take a number of 2 red clones and slowly breed up to a set of five 1 red clones to use the method I described without having to constantly roll seeds for good clones. Hemp is much much easier to test with because you can harvest and clone before the crossbreed phase, you can also destroy bad clones with a hachet. With potatoes you cannot remove them pre-crossbreed phase; so to roll for good clones you must only place seeds in the four corners or else red genes will over-take every seed. I haven't tested with corn or pumpkins. What I have noticed is that even 3 Y pumpkins only produce 1 pumpkin per ripe phase, whereas ripe potatoes produce 6-12. Cloth seems to go from 30-50. I'm beginning to think that G genes might be more produce per hour than Y genes. Hope this helps! Looking forward to the video on genetics.

@@Malonik I've been toying with the current water system and their are issues. For 1, it is very hard to gather enough water for large scale setups. I have a Farm Tower Base on the HAAS PVE Server in the X21 grid. I have 12 small catchers on the roof that are going to gravity feed each farm "tier" below the catchers. I keep running out of water because the water collectors do not collect fast enough. I hope that Facepunch Devs have a submersible pump in the works to pump fresh water out of lakes and rivers.

It definitely is part of the game and by default too (it's not a mod). There's a lot more to do than just hunting people in rust, excellent game that's definitely worth it.

@@Malonik thanks for the quick reply! I guess I’m asking if farming, etc, is something you CAN do if you want or if it’s something you need to do to succeed in the game? I think it’s really cool that’s there’s a lot to do and other aspects to the game, but it would also be a bummer to put all the work in to make something nice just to get wrecked by someone who’s just hunting people. but I guess that’s the point of the game? idk I’m very new to this.
@Malonik4 жыл бұрын
@@aaronlam6929 You don't have to do farming to be successful whatsoever. That being said it has some great benefits like having heaps of food or heaps of cloth which you could use to trade. Ultimately success in rust is hard to define because there's so much to do. It really depends what your play style and goals are. For example sometimes I'll go hard and get end game guns and raiding gear and raid people. Some wipes I'll just be super chill and run a hotel. You can be a farmer, you can be an electrician, you can be a mechanic, hell after the next patch you can be a fucken taxi driver if you want to lol.

GREAT SERIES! 👍 'd #OldManPaxus Rating: ★★★★ Curious what you think about this: Isn't it odd that FP pandered to kids who want everything immediately, totally happy to kill Tier 1 & 2 progression and wipe days (by addition of 4 elite crates at Mil Tuns, Cargo event, Oil rigs etc)...YET...They seem completely content to ignore that these same kind of kids have no interest in farming!?! 😵🤪 I know that the direction FP steers _what_ Rust _is_ has often been confusing and contrary to logic but this one seems especially weird.... I'd do a video about it, i just think it would fall on deaf ears...
@Malonik4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I wish they didn't destroy the early game progress because honestly it's my favourite part. I was so excited when they announced the spin off rust that was going to be medieval purely because it'd almost be a constant early game state. Then they dragged it out back and put a bullet in it. :( I think facepunch realizes that the people that wanted the early game sped up aren't the people that are going to be pouring time into farming, hell they probably won't even set up a farm, so why pander to them? Lol Also some of their decisions may seem odd but if you look at the grand scheme of things and the old roadmap it really is the direction that they'd always intended to go with rust. People seem shocked that they added electricity and farming and such. Meanwhile I'm sitting here going... but this shit has been planned for years.... of course they're doing it... what? Lol

Lol it's not hard to find a gun, you can grab revie and db from outpost which is enough to make a play for a better gun. Or hit up monuments. The food side of things won't be too bad either. This is mostly framework for their tier 2 recipes which will likely give you bonus effects so it won't mean you're starving you just won't get any bonus effects from food.

This needs a balance update. 9 water catchers cannot supply water for 1 sprinkler. Making a house with floor grills and windows gives 0 light. Yield is poor even under the best conditions. Farming needs to be a small percentage of your time in game otherwise no one will do it.
@Malonik4 жыл бұрын
They actually just rebalanced things in the latest patch as well as adding the new farming components like the new pump that goes in your water source. Super handy. That being said I need to do an updated guide on farming as a whole as the best setup I know of currently is 1 sprinkler per 3 planters. Also I think time and effort wise it's okay where it's at. Maybe even a little more time consuming tbh. Like currently I've got a guy on my discord generating about 5k scrap an hour out of his cloth farm (via trades at bandit camp). He not only has all the BP's but he's got 30 turrets hooked up around his base and more than a few boxes of LR's and kits and shit. He did all of this solo on a vanilla server courtesy of the farming system lol.
