This game took over my life from late 2013 until about 2018. Hearing this song makes me happy and yet incredibly sad and depressed at the same time. Mostly because I'll never be able to go back in time and experience Rust and all of it's glory for the first time ever again. And that greatly saddens me! 😥

the music is slow and low, the atmosphere with the cold blowing wind, you can tell that this soundtrack is enforcing the idea that its night time, aided with the crackling campire, if you listen closely you can hear things in the distance and background, like wolfs howling, and an odd audio effect here and there. giving you the feeling your always being watch, turning your back expecting SOMETHING to be there behind you. legacy rust may not have the AI, giant monuments and overall more content. but this was during a time that facepunch knew what they wanted rust to be. a survival game. now a days you get killed by fortnite art style clans who just kill you, over, and over, and over again. they have completely shifted away from what rust was meant to be, and made it what the toxic playerbase wants it to be.

Its been like it is now for the vast majority of the time but i do agree that early rust was more atmospheric and scary. But the atmospheric scary vibe is pretty temporary imo, once you learn the game and get good it gets kinda stale and boring so i think the direction they went was better for the future and longevity of the game. Maybe you would like The forest if you haven't already played it.

For the record, Rust is a sandbox game, you can do what you want whenever you want to, and I guess the game shifted towards PVP. I do support your opinion though, and I would appreciate if Facepunch made a separate game, a true survival game. You had no-one to kill you over and over and over again. You fought against AI, more AI than current Rust contains already. Maybe a story, too, one like Minecraft, that is always optional to follow. There would be more landmarks to visit and discover, and a map that slowly becomes filled in as you explore. The island would be WAY grittier, always overcast, and will make you feel cold in your own house. There would be a dark atmosphere, one that gives you the feeling (as you said) that you are being watched. The guns would be way more clunky, as they are custom made. There will still be multiplayer, however, but you will be on a team. The health system will be way more important to the player, too. Crafting aid will be more difficult, and you would have to use it sparingly, and make better decisions on picking fights. The AI will have scavengers wandering around the world, keeping you on your toes. There could be a system of insanity, too. Where you start seeing things dart between trees, things that disappear behind your peripheral. I could go on, but my brain is tired from this fantasy

I miss playing this game so much. Back then, I was in highschool and I'd stay up til 4am on weeknights just to roll with the boys. We had a sick crew back then and so much fun. Servers would get to 50+ easily and there were battles all over the map, no matter where you went. Logging onto the legacy servers nowadays is just a shadow from the past.

I was maybe like 12'ish when I started playing rust. Roughly a month after they took the zombies out and added mutants instead. I remember coming back from school everyday and playing the hell out of it for hours with friends that I met ingame. Man do I ever miss it. The new rust doesn't even come close to the same feeling the old one had. Not to mention you can't really make friends in it anymore. I think I've only met 1 decent person in the new rust and that's it. Pretty sad honestly. Definitely doesn't scratch the itch that the old rust did lol

The original Rust was awesome, they should've finished it and made the current Rust, Rust 2. They had a long enough period of time to make 2 separate games, I mean current Rust is basically Rust 2 anyways for those who started Legacy, its an entirely new engine.

I had played this game with my friends first time back in 2016. I had stone age PC with very low graphics and almost 20-25 fps on low resolution. I remember when first time i had gone for farm and then lost my way back home. There was no map at that time. I was continuously guiding my friends that i am in the middle of mountains bla bla bla come and take me with you. Raiding was so hard at that time. The game was all about surviving. I always try to find a Rock like mountain where i can make my base because it was unreachable and unraidable too. One cupboard was enough to cover mostly area. Aaaaahhhh i really miss those all days .... :-(

I remember when I first started playing rust legacy back in 2013 or something. My PC was stone age and I played on 15-20 fps constantly, but it was ENJOYABLE! I built that little starter shack you could make, no foundation no nothing. Very small. Put a metal door on there. Later 2 guys come and start threatening me while I'm sitting in my shack, scared shitless, heart beating harder and harder. They started chopping my shack with their hatchets when I refused to open the door. Shit went from 0 to 100 pretty quick. I quickly crafted a waterpipe shotgun and some ammo, quickly opened the door to spray atleast one guy in his face. The sweet sound spam of hitting that guy's face with every pellet is something I'll never forget. Unfortunately the second guy sprayed me down with a higher tech gun. M4 I think. That was when I fell in love with this game. Hundreds of hours spent. Made new friends, but it's just the same situation as it was with minecraft. They are... **sniff** gone today... Back then rust KNEW how to keep the atmosphere up and make you scared for your life. Today? Today it's all about roofcampers, zergs, going to oil rig then cargo then military tunnels then back on oil rig again once the crate has respawned. Some people even get oil rig in the first few minutes of the wipe with just a bow. Rust isn't about surviving and making allies anymore. It's a brainless PVP and it's headed for the same route as Unturned is. Facepunch ruined rust, they completely ruined it... wish Garry finished rust legacy instead of jumping to experimental with facepunch team. Don't get me wrong, I still play rust to this day but with each update it seems like I play it less and less. I literally had a year long break from it.

I see all these people saying how you can still play rust legacy, yes they're just trying to help, yes we can still play it, but I think the game itself was only a small part of what we miss. Back then was different. The community was so funny, random and autistic in a way that I've yet to experience on any other game. Armies of nakeds running wild with their dicks out while playing loud music through a shitty mic and yelling, the youtube videos, people that didn't always shoot on sight and encounters with players were actually funny. I'm not saying that the community that was back then is completely gone, or that an experience like what could happen back then doesn't still happen now. But while i haven't really went on a legacy server to check, I believe from what i've seen, it's just not the same man. R.I.P. Rust Legacy community

A buddy of mine and I played this back in the summer of 2014 until 4 am for days in a row... The bears and wolves almost had the same audio clip in the game, but the bear were just an octave deeper lol. Miss playing this game with Shadowhunter... but not NStinct; dude made us farm metal for a base that he messed up and ended up wasting hours of game time. Good times though.

First played this game 8 years ago when I was just about to turn 11 lol. There was this one time that has cemented itself in my brain while playing during 2014. It was on a semi-popular community server, and I had just set up a little starter shack at the 'resource valley' point on the map, situated near a bunch of stone nodes and wood piles along the road that lead to a popular radtown, and as I was chillin my base (probably crafting or something) I heard an airdrop go right over me. So i had a look outside, and the airdrop had literally dropped right in front of me down near the bottom of the valley. So, being 10 years old, I sat in my starter shack and waited for it to come down. And as it was about to touch the ground, I ran to it with my little bodged revolver I got from wherever and immediately ran into another solo player, also going for the airdrop. They had an M4 and kevlar (the player model for wearing kevlar was all black clothing with a beanie lmao) and I had cloth armour and my revolver. He could have easily gunned me down, but instead, they said hey! I didn't have a mic but he did, yet he still spent the time to talk to me while the airdrop was coming down, and when it finally landed, he said that I could have it, and that he would see my around. A pretty unremarkable story, but one that makes me wonder what went so wrong with the playerbase. Of course we know that popularity was the killer blow to the Rust community, but my god, 95% of the people on mainstream servers are no talk KOS shitheads. More realistic I guess...
