Honestly would not have been able to change my wifes 2014 qx60 3.5l spark plugs and was about to pay $500 for the shop to do it. I came across this video and went ahead and tackled the job myself. Took me about 4 very careful hours but the engine sounds better than ever. Also replaced that pcv valve while I was under there and good thing I did because the old one was not rattling like its supposed to. Also threw some amsoil foam cleaner into the intake and now the engine is so quiet, check engine light p0420 even went away! So it even cleaned out the cats! Thank you Sir!!!!

Excellent video thank you. I looked at many for this vehicle and yours was right on for specific information without talking aimlessly. Love the humor.

Decided to tackle this job after watching a few videos. Your video was the best to get a feel for all the drama ahead. Agree with several of the other comments, this is a ridiculous procedure to change plugs, but it only cost me less than $85 for the 100k Denso OEM plugs, 2x gaskets, anti-seize, spark plug socket and throttle body cleaner (thanks to Amazon). It took me about 2 hours including the throttle body cleaning (not rushing). Not sure what the dealer wants to do this, but can bet it's way more than $85. If you have a 10mm socket, needle nose pliers and several extensions with 2 hours to kill you can definitely knock this out and save a ton of money. Not sure how much time I would have saved with an electric tool. The bolts are pretty easy to get out manually. Note that I got the 100K plugs because I don't plan on doing this again for another 8+ years (if I still have the vehicle).

Dealer just quoted me $720 to do this. Car is my daily/family car and not my "fun" car that I maintain myself. Normally, i let the dealer handle maintenance, but I believe $100 and a couple of hours of my time is well forth saving the 600 or more extra the dealer would charge...

The Intake valves on these direct injected engines get alot of carbon build up, I recommend going to a indy shop that does Walnut Blasting and give them the spark plugs to change while they got the intake off anyway. Walnut blasting is maybe $500ish

Any idea to fix the vaccum base of the hose you took off at 2.56. When I tried taking the hose off from the base, the tip broke off.
@RustBeltAutoКүн бұрын
@@lucky1amir probably going to need to plug that hole with something that won't get sucked into the intake, like a screw with some jb weld or something, and find a different vacuum source to T off into. You just need to make sure it's the same type of vacuum. I think that one is manifold vaccum from the looks of it. Or get a different manifold plenum from a junkyard or something.

Thanks, about to tackle the beast, pain in the arse, but not impossible. Think I should do the coils while Im there?
@RustBeltAuto10 ай бұрын
The coils you buy will probably be of lower quality. I say if it's not broke, don't fix it.

Did you happen to look down the intake ports to see if there was any GDI junk build-up on the intake valves?

@RustBeltAuto3 ай бұрын
@@toontoonjr. dealer. Either that, or use regular straight bulk hose. Cut the bad out, and connect the new with a hose barb, or use an extra long hose, or a unicoil, because it doesn't like sharp bends without kinking. You can also look at the pre-bent stuff at the parts store for different vehicles, and piece something together. There's your options.

My thought process is on a big job if you gotta take it off and it has a gasket just replace that gasket. Theyre usually under $30 and it saves the customer and yourself as a technician the headache of it later. Id rather have the happy customer not the ever since you customer
