Just finished this job and your video made it so much easier. I bought one of this telescope magnets (very little one) and took the magnet out and it fit inside the 10mm socket and held the bolts perfectly for removing and installing on the pulley. Highly recommended if anyone is about to do this job. Was a perfect use of 3 bucks.

There's another 2.2 liter 4 cylinder engine Chevy uses for this same year.Look at the eight number on the Vin one has a F or the number 4.The other motor has spark plug wires on it.This ecotec has a black plate on top of the head with the spark plug boots built into it.The other engine is a little aggravating to remove the water pump, just not as bad as this one.

Chevrolet makes this water pump so aggravating so you won't want to replace it yourself. That's just as aggravating as their earlier 4.6 liter dohc north star water pump that is a pump that has to be cogged into a hollow chamber that is part of the engine block,ridiculous idea????

Thanks for a great video that reminds me why I'm never getting rid of my 92 Toyota shortbed pickup. That eco water pump job would drive anybody that doesn't have a lift absolutely crazy. My neighbor has a very clean fairly well optioned 2004 but the water pump needs replacement....I was thinking about buying his car so that I would have some emergency backup in case my Toy went down. This job, on such a routine replacement is way over the edge so I'm going to pass on buying his car...but good luck to anybody that has to go thru this nightmare. Better have a fifth of Jack Daniels standing by lol.

Timing cover needs to come off. If they did anything really stupid, they may have bent valves. IMHO if it don't work, it's worth nothing.
@DrcossNuevoLeonMx Жыл бұрын
@@RustBeltAuto am guessing his referring to the timing chain that connects to the water pump, cause he said his mechanic miscalculated his skills an dropped that timing chain, he said he came back an that's what his mechanic told him, that he had dropped the timing chain, an that he just told him to leave, an that the car has been sitting for 2 yrs on his garage, do you think, that if they tried to crank it ,without that water chain, being in its position will it have bended valves ? Would it have even trun on in order to have the force needed to bend them ? Pls help, my truck got stolen an am trying to get a vehicle to get back to work, ive worked on cars timing chains JUST NOT THIS MOTOR before just not an expert an not trying to throw my money away THANK YOU VERY MUCH BEFORE HAND GB
@RustBeltAuto Жыл бұрын
@@DrcossNuevoLeonMx The water pump is driven by the timing chain in that. The cover needs to be removed, and everything needs to be inspected, and properly aligned. You can cross you fingers, run it, and see what happens, or do a leakdown test, or compression test after the chain is put back on to see if any valves are bent.

We have to do this job on one with a turbo. I'm hoping we don't have to pull the turbo out. Also doing the whole timing chain job so fortunately the sprocket part will be easy. I think the impeller came loose. Engine runs fine but zero coolant circulation.
@RustBeltAuto4 жыл бұрын
Did you do a block test? I have only seen impellers come apart on VW's so far. Just my personal experience.
@AmandaHugenkiss29154 жыл бұрын
@@RustBeltAuto haven't touched it yet. Was running fine then suddenly overheated. Radiator cold, heater core cold, no coolant leaks. Engine runs perfect, just overheats due to no circulation. With the sudden problem eg was fine then sudden failure, all I can think of is the pump is not pumping. Which I'm glad this happened now since we were planning to do the chains anyway, it's very noisy
