Hello and welcome to my channel! I want to introduce my 1965 Pontiac GTO. I discovered this car in Salt Lake City where it was destined for the scrap heap. It will require extensive restoration work and I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos. My goal is to transform this car into a 10 second street car in the next 12 months!
In this episode I full remove the floor pan. If this is your first time, just know that this is a big job! But by taking your time and working slowly, you can do this job with ease. Overall the car is in amazing shape for being close to 60 years old!
Follow me on Instagram for more pictures of the build. @Rust_Bucket_Restos

i just recently picked up a 68 charger to start rebuilding out in the garage with the occasional help from dad lol. Decent shape floors are gone in the back along with the trunk pan and one frame rail on its way gone, atleast thats what i can see so far. few panels will need to be replaced and maybe even a rocker. I am a pretty much an elementary mechanic but ive just been really wanting to start on a project like this for a few years and learn the skill and to one day say I did that! I am in way over my head but I got a good deal and seemed to be an investment really. I have a lot of motivation and the best thing, time. 24 years old so im just doing my research(A SHIT TON) and taking my time. Here I am watching some of your GTO videos because I love the way you go into detail and show everything and just lookin for tips I could learn. For someone like me this has been a ton of help and to be real it has gave me a ton of confidence going into this. I just wanted to say thank you so much and look forward to your videos! @Rust Bucket Resto’s im sure ill be asking for some advice in the future!!

I would recommend looking into a plasma cutter, I bought a $200 Chinesium special off Amazon for my restoration project and it was the best $200 I ever spent. its only 110v 35A but slices through sheet metal like its a wet paper bag. Its amazing for hard to reach places and for big cuts as you don't burn through abrasive discs. Plus its fun as hell to melt through metal wielding the power of Hephaestus. Also an air chisel will make splitting those spot welds about 5-10x faster.

@@markszczepaniak5888 The exact description copied from my order history is: Lotos LT3500 35 Amp Air Plasma Cutter, 2/5 Inch 10 mm Clean Cut, 110V/120V Input with Pre Installed Air Filter Regulator with NPT Quick Connector, Brown Its down to $179 now, truly a steal. You do have to use your own air compressor but it works great. That being said I have never owned any other plasma cutter so maybe expensive ones are better but this one did everything I needed it to. It definitely takes a little practice and skill to make super clean cuts but well worth the time, effort, and money.

Ya man! LOVE IT!! You going to box this frame or lay out and weld up your own frame? JUst need to keep the same angles and then match all the purchase points... cross members you can custom make to your own liking :-)) Big Power = beefier frame so it won't twist up your body and ruin the paint and such. Love those flippin holes they put in along the rocker bottoms... "We put those in as drains!" That is pre-planned obsolescence they got real good at along with thinner sheet metal later on. Note where the rust happens... between plug welds, drip rails... trim around windows... you know all that though but to see all of that crap pour out of the rockers and see the day light through those holes that came factory lmao

When that boy gets a little older he's going to sneak those cars out and raise all kinds of hell! I know I did! I started at 11 years old With a 1963 Studebaker hawk Grand Turismo 289, 4 bbl. carb, with duals and posi! We lived on 300 acres and there were 30 acre fields with nothing to hit and I had the keys to a 250 gallon gas tank in the barnyard! And nobody home but me! I calmly put gas in the car then drove out into the field and floored it and didn't back off until I knew how to ''drift'' We called it power sliding! But my mom and dad would go to do the shopping on every Friday and I would stay home to ''mow the lawn''! One Friday when they were leaving my dad tossed me the keys to the gas tank and told me to put some gas in the Studebaker so I didn't run out!

I'm guessing that acid dipping, primering and then reconstructing parts of that original floor board is out of the question..? It didn't look entirely unfixable to me. Stock, is always a higher market value ...fixing the original floor board would have been better . That metal looked really good except for only a problem spot ...perhaps it IS too far gone...?

I’m not worried about keeping this car stock in any way really. When you have to do floors, trunk, window channels, wheel houses, tail panel, fenders, quarters, doors, etc. who really cares about stock at that point. I’d rather have a solid car that looks great & is safe and fun to drive.

It is a labor of love for the dollar doesn't really merit putting that much money and time into them. 73 now I have a whole different feeling for these cars. I don't know if people are still spending the big dollars for getting their rigs fixed right but one thing for sure, there are few and far between to find one that doesn't need the pans replaced. I fear the one thing that none of us can beat and that is the coming of electric cars. I see california has places where if the hoods up they will tow it. You can't go over to moms house and change her flat tire!! I went to Nam for their freedom and now we will have to fight for our own freedom from tyrannical government that won't allow you a choice of what you drive an get this before I blow up, self driving cars in future.... errrr. I meant to just say I think that you are doing a great job and now sound like a wing nut. so sorry
