Using this combo on parts of my 57 Chevy, I think it does a great job!

I spilled a little of rusty metal primer on a commercial auto shop floor 5 years ago, it's still there, it hardens like a rock, hasn't pealed or worn down

I know people are not going to like hearing this but rustolem rusty metal primer and regular rustolem are good products and lots of times out preform POR 15...reason is two fold cost and need for prep....POR prep has to be absolutely perfect and even then it can fail... I've tested this with equipment and tools that I have left out side here on the NJ Shore... Using phosphoric acid and self etching primer and rusty metal primer top coated with rustolem enamel is very cost effective and long lasting I have an engine hoist which has been outside kept for over 25 years painted with rustolem black and has very little rust on it...and I have an old Grey mills parts washer big enough to hold a mopar big block engine block same paint zero rust it's got to be over 40 years old! Outside kept and all terrian wheels for complete mobility.... The only draw back is other colors will fade but black is very strong in the uv light..... For a budget build its a great choice.

Agreed, I almost got the POR 15 to try but decided on the Rustoleum because of the reasons you stated and I've used lots of their other products in the past.

absolutely true..to be honest I have tested high dollar Eastwood and por rustoleum actually works just as good. just make sure u get a gloss color .I know it sounds weird but the gloss version of the same color drys rock hard compared to a flat.try it u will see what I'm referring to.

I can see you've never tried por 15. There is no comparison. Try taking the lid off of a used por 15. You can't

Wondering if you sanded the floor before painting it

It doesn't look like it. He just painted over all that scaled rust...

I like the price and amount of paint for the price on this combo. I'd still run some coarse sandpaper or a DA over the rusty metal to get a decent scratch pattern for the paint to stick to. Tired of high priced paint-over-rust products, I too have started using Rustoleum primer and enamel with a little hardener in it.
@qualityflips523Ай бұрын
Good idea, I'll keep that in mind for next time

@spiritof_76 what type of "hardener " do you add? Guessing not something you would find in the big box stores next to the paint.
@Spiritof_76Ай бұрын
@@tiredofit1429 I use Krylon Farm & Implement Catalyst Hardener from Tractor Supply because I got it there at a decent price. Several companies make a hardener for enamel paints.

a big prob with a paint brush is potential streeks

the biggest issue is potential uncovered metal from streeks

I tried that rusty metal primer once, and the rustolium paint i bought to use wouldn't stick to the primer. It left big cracks all over.
