Great job. I agree with staying with 348 and so much more original. Patience paid off.

Exactly, bring them back to factory original. These "resto-frog" over customized cars ruin the character of the vehicle.

All car guys and girls know that by '61, the Bel Air has become second tier behind the Impala (starting in '58) and that makes this car even more special! Three on the column with a 348! Outstanding job on a car deserving only the best!

Thank goodness. I was afraid you were going to slam it to the ground and put some monster engine in it. I think the 61 chevy was the most beautiful car of its era and beyond. I had a 61 convertible back in the day. Great work. Totally love it.

Excellent job. The California one piece bumper are sweet. Always like the Ermine white with red interior. Credit to the original owner for ordering that sport coupe body Bel Air big block combo.
@tommylord
@tommylord 11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure it was originally a big block car though. Grill emblem looks like the standard non-348 piece in the beginning of the video. Also, the cross hairs on the tail lights are not correct for a Bel Air.

@@tommylordprobably can not get the original style Bel Air/Biscayne taillights anymore.
@tommylord
@tommylord 11 ай бұрын
@danielulz Those red tails are the same as 1960, so I'm thinking they are re-popped. The stainless cross hairs weren't available until '61, and only on the Impala. They lift off seperately if the lenses aren't screwed to the body. The '60 back-up lights are solid white, but the '61 have a red reflector ring.

Unusual to see a 61 again, nice job, its a beauty. Back in the days I had 2 , 63 chevy station wagons, a biscayne and a bel airre both with the 283 small 8. the belle aire had a standard on the column the other automatic. great cars!!!!!!!! There was nothing better than standard on the column once you really mastered it. The gear choice was yours and always right in front of you for total concentration and fast changes...

Thanks for sharing. My first car was a 61 Bel Air 4 dr in 1971. The 283 was so quiet you couldn’t hardly hear it running standing next to it. A cherry bomb muffler changed that, ha. Front fenders would pack with mud at the tips and then rust, no inner fenders to stop it. A great car, I loved driving mine.

Oh man! In 1964, I owned a 1959 Chevy Impala Sport Coup. Grecian gray with beautiful red and gray interiour. 4 speed manual transmission , and the kicker was the 335 horse 348 solid lifter engine.That car was so fast in the day, what I wouldn't give to have that Chevy back today. I would hand wax that car every other week or so with, Super Blue Simonize Wax. I kept a can of that wax all these years as it is still good. I really miss those days.

Outstanding job!! Love the fact that you kept the old 348 BB and the 3-on-the-tree! I had a 348 in my '59 Impala HT. Not much torque with the "Power-slush", but when they hit 30mph, that mill definitely wakes up! Seeing that you're also in the PHX area, maybe we'll run into one another at a show with my Elkie or my '65 C/10. 👍👍

Beautiful workmanship on this historically significant car. This car is evocative of the space race and JFK. Of the Cuban Missile crisis which my husband studied in University. This car represents such a large story. Out of this era human beings begin the work to land on the moon. Anyone having a car like this is truly blessed.

Seriously good job on the 61 Impala guys. My Dad had one only his was jet black, red & white interior, 348 V8 w/3 deuces. Also knew a guy in our apartment (after Mom & Dad divorced) that had one when I was in high school, his was just like my Dad’s but his had a Muncie 4 speed. He blew the doors off a 65 GTO with it one night while cruising, (ah yeah, those were the days!!)

I had a black one that I bought from the neighbors for $50 in the early 70's. Drove it over the winter months when my '64 Vette was garaged. Filled the back seat up to the top of the seats w McDonald's bags, wrappers cups and sadly drove it to the junk yard in Spring when the Vette came out of hibernation.
