Rusty Kitchen Cleaver Restoration

Hello folks! Today I want to show you my new restoration project. I found this kitchen cleaver at a flea market. I liked the shape of the cleaver and I bought it.

First, I used rust remover to removed rust and dirty from cleaver, then washed, dried and oiled it. The correction of shape of cleaver I used files, also I sanded the shape of cleaver with sandpapers. For the handle, I chose beech wood and steel rivets.
As usual, I made a test of cleaver for you. I hope, you will enjoy this restoration project. Thank you for attention!

Might be better for dismemberment a beast rather than a watermelon. Excellent restoration but wonder if the wood grain could have been aligned the other way?

It’s hard wood. So it doesn’t much matter. But the cross grain makes the little hook part stronger. Also, making the hole for the flange is much easier this way, than it would have been lengthwise with the grain. Plus I’m sure that it was chosen for the specific look.

Tidy job again, however I would like to point out the spine wasn't hardened as it would not file back to shape so easily, would say it has been edge hardened and tempered only, quite possible were you to polish and etch the blade that you would find it has a hamon line
