Only thing better than the Hunter’s Axe is Ludwig’s Holy Blade, it’s faster,has higher DPS, and is honestly more reliable, but the Hunter Axe is so good that it can carry you all the way to the end (though it’s slow attack speed might be more detrimental than useful against bosses like Gehrman)

Sweater_Clan One of the best if not THE best in the base game actually, it’s skill scaling clocks in at B for strength and Skill, and A for Arcane i’m currently running through NG+ and i’m mainly using LHB since it has the potential to do about 200+ damage or more in it’s shortsword form, and upwards of 700 in it’s greatsword form, combine that with it’s impressive speed in either form and you’ve got a weapon that can carry you through the entire game

I really love Bloodborne's limited weapon options compared to the impossibly large encyclopedia you get in Dark Souls. Bringing the Saw Cleaver to the very end of Bloodborne feels natural, and you really become intimate with the moveset. In DS you can TECHNICALLY use "Longsword" for the entire game, but usually you come across something like "Twisted Broadsword Of The Fallen Saint" and it's like damn that sounds 1000x cooler than Long Sword I'm using that now

The really awful thing though is that's not how a lot of people play Dark Souls I pick my weapon at the start of a run and use it the entire time because there's rarely a reason to change, and limited crafting materials is a big reason to NOT change. Plus, in DS games, there's things that are essentially duplicates. Why do I need a long sword and a broad sword in the same game? They're near identical. I legitimately don't know why they didn't just make a small selection of amazing weapons like in Bloodborne

6:50 the reason she's fighting you with the Rakuyo, despite the weapon description saying otherwise, is because the nightmare realm you're in is a reflection of her consciousness and guilt manifested into it's own space by Amygdala, and is (physically) separate from the waking world. :) SPOILER WARNING: In the waking world (or "the real world"), Maria was a hunter who, alongside Gherman and the college, ravaged a fishing hamlet known for worshipping a great one (Kos) for her insight. Maria felt so much guilt afterwards for what she had done, that she threw her Rakuyo down the well and spent the rest of her days comforting transformed patients, those of whom were being experimented on in a nearby hospital. The guilt eventually became too much though, and she committed suicide as a result. I'm unsure whether she actually died in a clocktower or if that's just another manifestation of her consciousness (being trapped in time, guarding her secrets) Although Maria is dead in the waking world, she carries on in the nightmare at the will of Amygdala. When you hear "curse the fiends and their children too" in the DLC cutscene, it's a clue that, at the request of the villagers, Amygdala recreated the fishing hamlet to torment the hunters involved in it's destruction, and this includes Maria. This part of the nightmare is her, and everyone else's, personal hell for the atrocities they committed. The Rakuyo shows up on Maria and in the well because a hunter's appearance in the dream is a manifestation of how they view and feel about themselves irl, and the dream/nightmare realms are manifestations of events that happened in the real world, however they are still separate manifestations. She felt extreme guilt in her role as a hunter in the fishing hamlet incident, and the Rakuyo is a huge part of that guilt. On the other hand, the fishing hamlet was recreated exactly how it was at it's worst to torment the hunters, and the Rakuyo was also a part of that oppressive environment. You just can't collect the Rakuyo from Lady Maria as it's a part of her, and not the environment, but you can collect the Rakuyo from the well as it's a part of the environment and not Maria. When Maria dies, her burden, guilt, and shame do too, and that's the Rakuyo in a nutshell.

The Nightmare is actually created by Kos. It's the wrath of Mother Kos for butchering the villagers and taking her ombilical cord killing the infant in the process. While Kos may have died physically,mentally a Great One is everlasting so from the high planes of existance Mother Kos layed the curse of blood on the hunters,trapping them in a nightmare were they will be part of a never ending hunt.

I seriously lol'd when he put the hunters axe higher than the whirligig saw. First of all, the saw has better scaling and therefore, has better damage. It is also a serrated weapon and absolutely shreds everything in pve mode to pieces especially beasts. By far the best weapon for pve content, i guess you can argue which is better for pvp. One things for sure, the whirligig saw will never disappoint.

Rusty: "Chikage is a massively underrated weapon." Dude, 50% of the entire pvp community use this. It is super op due to BB's inherent 11 frame delay in multiplayer. This effectively means that you'll get invaded at least once while you're going through mergo's loft and see the "You died" screen more than you are comfortable with. Damn quickdraw.

Yeah and because of the gems you can put on it. On a Lost Chikage it has a circle gem slot so you can put a bloodtinge gem on it and people know where to get the best gems for it. A chikage with Out of Shape bloodting gems is WAY OP.

It's amazing after all these years i still find so much depth in his game. I started with the Fire Axe and Holy Blade, fire axe helped a lot with mobs when I sucked at the game and the holy blade still does great in hunter fights and bosses. The Saw cleaver became my favorite, especially against beasts with blood pellets. I started playing with the whirligig saw recently, and I like it a lot too. Now I'm messing around with Chikage and the Burial blade, having more fun with the burial blade honestly. All these weapons are pretty fun.

To be honest, while Ludwig's Holy Blade is extremely overpowered, I personally find it one of the more boring weapons for design and moveset. Whirligig Saw forever! Fantastic transformation attacks, amazing quickstep attacks, and that L2.... Perfect. Not to mention, it just looks like the coolest thing ever.

My favorite weapon is Kos parasite, mainly on principle. It's spectacularly weird, I love how it changes your gameplay so drastically. A lot of weapons have similar movesets that appeal to a handful of playstyles, but nothing is close to the parasite barring beast claw. Parasite's moveset is sick but its damage is nothing to write home about; on a per swing or even dps basis I can't imagine it could compare to what's possible with some of the other weapons, but it is definitely an exceedingly enjoyable weapon to use despite many drawbacks.

Yeah honestly. Amygdala Arm has bonkers range, infinite hitstun in club form, cool auto attacks that can be canceled out of, really good str scaling, and takes waaay less stamina than you would think. It's just better burial blade with added tenticle moves. Plus the ability to pancake enemies to the ground exceeds that of pretty much any other weapon out there. Love me some Amygdalan arm. Also it's complementary to a build that can use the tonitrus, Boom Hammer, HMS, and Logarius Wheel so you have plenty of secondary weapon options

You'd be surprised how useful the double charged R2 is in base form, it baits Invaders so hard and knocks them on their ass for a fat minute.

For me, is Amygdala's Arm, there's just something so satisfying about running right into mobs, then hitting R2 and hitting frikin' everyone. Plus I love Mensis Cage and that thing just looks right.

Bro, the Logarius Wheel is super fun! You just swing it around and smash it into shit! Best for a strength build aside from the axe and Wirligig Saw. My favorite weapon, however, is the Blade of Mercy. Either a quick one handed short blade or two handed daggers and dual wielding is my favorite thing to do in games. Also, the move set is so smooth and allows you to be super light and graceful. That R1 thrust attack out of a dodge is so rewarding to pull off since it often staggers enemies. It also has like the longest R1 spamming move ever.

Im very surprised BOM didn't make the list. It's such an enjoyable weapon to use. I guess its because the range isn't very good. Another annoyance is that you can't put fire on that weapon. Still 1 of my most favorite that helped me with abhorrent beast and Ludwig.

It breaks a bit too fast, but I have a soft spot for the Tonitrus. It has the built-in Bolt Paper effect and is just fun because it reminds me of Hawkgirl's Nth Metal mace.

Holy moonlight sword is easily my favourite. The big downside is that you need a crazy amount of stats to maximise it so you’ll have completed the game before you get them. It’s really for chalice dungeons. Chikage is my second favourite not only because it’s powerful but because skill/tinge builds are really fun in PVE for huge viscerals. A very satisfying and skilful build.

Glad to see someone appreciates the hunter axe. Used it as a beginning weapon then used it to slaughter everything in the game. Spin to win if it’s too narrow use it as and axe then chop and smash them dead. Still use it as my main weapon alongside the Holy Moonlight Greatsword.

My personal list would have to be (for pve btw): 1. Ludwig's Holy Blade (Seriously no other contender. Very high DPS, very high Damage for just a single attack, and it has two good movesets.) 2. Saw Cleaver (Some may find this surprising, but after using it a lot I fell in love. Definitely my favorite weapon. Versatile, decent DPS, and has one of the best transformation attacks in the game. Plus, you get it all without sacrificing your left hand weapon.) 3. Whirligig Saw (Best strength weapon. Best weapon against beasts too. Weapon is far from overhyped or overrated.) 4. Holy Moonlight Sword (I mean, it's pretty much self-explanatory) 5. Rakuyo (Best skill weapon in the game, hands down. Can't think of a single downside to the weapon.) 6. Burial Blade (Amazing range, decent dps, and two amazing movesets. Plus, Gehrman cosplay.) 7. Church Pic (Personally not a fan, but it's still a great weapon. It would be higher, but I find its moveset bland.) 8. Hunter's Axe (Spin to win) 9. Chikage (Go to bloodtinge weapon. Very powerful, and pretty versatile. Only downside is the immense grinding to make it as powerful as possible.) 10. Amygdala Arm (This weapon gets no attention. I like it. High range, decent DPS, wack ass moveset, and you get to kill Amygdala with its arm.)

Logarius' Wheel is amazing, I strongly recommend a playthrough in Executioner Garb with the Wheel as your weapon of choice because it's simply spectacular. What makes it so amazing? Fun fact: the Wheel is one of two weapons in the game to get S rank Strength scaling, alongside the Whirligig. It does less on average than the Whirligig because it deals in exclusively blunt damage (In its untransformed state), but makes up for it in the legendary trait of POISE and is a great stagger weapon. The transformed state R2's build Beast Blood meter nearly instantly, switch back to the untransformed state whilst using 50+ Strength build and: BOOM. What you're fighting is done for in 10 swings or less. My friend and I killed Orphan of Kos so quickly while using this method, he failed to reach his second phase and glitched out. ALTERNATIVELY: A painful build to make, but is singlehandedly the most powerful build in the game is an Arcane Wheel setup. The gist is you farm the chalice dungeons for Flat Arcane gem's and toss them onto the Wheel. Transform that bad boy and be amazed as you quite literally mulch away all semblance of danger and difficulty the game has to throw at you using the multihit attacks of the wheel, which benefit the most from the flat gems. The only downside is the gem farming is literally the worst. Not figuratively. Literally.
