His efforts and ability to learn French was truly great thing. What a guy!

Those games from Jarry Park. A visiting team's city would get their TV feed from the Monteal team, which was probably standard procedure with most telecasts throughout the league back then. The Expos' cameramen would shake the camera when their team had a rally late in a game, as the organist or P.A. blared some bullfighting type musical effects. Obviously, as a Met fan in N.Y., I hated it. Oh well. The things that we never forget. And yeah, Rusty, he eventually became our most beloved star.

Rusty was an iconic figure and a treasure for not only MLB, but for his tremendous volunteer work and contributions in which he raised millions of dollars for charities … He was one of my favorite players; God Bless him 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻…

Rusty should be in the Hall of Fame.., when a player of his caliber isn't a member, they may as well close the doors...

You should have finished his career with the Toronto Blue Jays he would have been designated hitter he would have gotten his 300 additional hits and he definitely would have made the Hall of Fame

Before Rusty was traded April 5, 1972 for Singleton, Jorgensen & Foli, he was our Expos shining star & best all-around player 1969-70-71. 480 games, 1717 AB, 281 Runs, 508 Hits, 83 Doubles, 18 Triples, 78 HR, 270 RBI, 296 walks vs. 196 Strikeouts .296 Average .404 On base pct. .502 Slugging. Playing with heart & soul for an expansion team in a sub-grade park, with exuberant fans who loved the game. ''Le Grand Orange'' learned French to integrate, became Canada's baseball ambassador. Still among the top 5 revered Pro atheletes to play for a Montreal team with Maurice Richard, Jean Beliveau, Guy Lafleur and Vladimir Guerrero Sr. Astros Expos Mets and Tigers fans can unite in honoring this great man today, 5 years after his passing.

I was 11 years old when the Expos were born. Was at the second home game ever played at Parc Jarry. I was a "Young Expo" which got me left field bleacher seats for 50 cents. Great memories! Thanks Rusty.

The second game was actually the opener, the opener was rained out.

He struck out at the average of 49 times per season. Not too shabby for a #3 hitter. Thats once every three games! I'm sure that at least three players in the majors, struck out 4 times each today. Lol. I know Aaron Judge did.

I was twelve years old in 1969, and Rusty Staub was WAY bigger than life to me; Mack Jones wasn't far behind. Not to mention Coco Laboy and Bill Stoneman. I was even a member of the Young Expos Club, and got to sit in the bleachers for fifty cents. Unfortunately, one can't go back.

Mathieu Bibeau what if they moved the Rays to Montreal? The Yankee games would sell out. So would the Red sox games, plus you could get the Boston/Montreal rivalry that exists in Hockey to a baseball rivalry as well. Games Vs Toronto would also fit that bill too. What do you think?

One of my heroes in and out of baseball. A great player, humanitarian and a true gentleman. My biggest thrill was when I interviewed him for my college paper. Nikiaf: Montreal has at least two - count 'em, TWO major league sports franchises: the Canadiens (NHL) & the Alouettes (CFL). I too, miss the Montreal Expos, as they fielded some great teams through the years. If it weren't for the 1994 players strike, the Spos would have had a World Series championship! Rusty you should have played the last few years in the American League for the Toronto Blue Jays you would have been a designated hitter and you would have gotten your 3,000 base hits and you would definitely be in the Hall of Fame you should have did that you should have laser focused on getting those 3,000 hits which you would have been able to do had you played designated hitter in the American League for the Toronto Blue Jays

The first mistake made by the Montreal Expos made was to move out of a baseball park. And into a football stadium that people didn't like going to for baseball. If they needed another ballpark, than they should've built another baseball park. And not moved into Montreal Olympic Stadium.

Two Things: As a naive kid I thought to myself: "he's a gourmet chef...I wonder if other ballplayers do cool shit in their spare time?" I discovered that most ballplayers back then didn't lead lives as interesting as Rusty. We were fortunate to have him with the Expos and his gracious, charismatic presence was appreciated then and is remembered fondly today. Speaking of charisma, or lack of it, DAVID GRAHAM, stick with something you can do better than trolling Canadians...like CORING APPLES.

@blairzel What you failed to mention is that Selig and others were sued under the RICO act by 14 canadian companies, one of them being owned by Stephen Bronfman who wanted this new ballpark more than anyone else so if that doesn't ring a bell to people of "your sort" nothing probably will. And speaking of simplistic logic, the Big O was only totally paid for in 2006, which implies that the Quebec gvnt would've been paying for 2 stadiums at the same time which probably makes sense to you anyway.
