I like the choice of pale blue and white! Lends one to think of fresh, cool spring water.

What a coincidence! Just a couple of days ago I was thinking I would really like to see an old iron pump being restored since I have one on my abandoned farm and today this video came up in my subscriptions. Thank you Lost and restored and the universe! 😊

My grandparents had one of those pumps installed next to there kitchen sink. You always had to save a vase full of water so you could prime the pump the next time you wanted some water. They Finley got electricity and running water in 1965.

Just as a farmer would service their pumps when those worked for a living. It was common to keep scraps of leather for making check valves and of course a bucket of water to prime them. The design is still produced as they're so simple.

As always, I very much enjoyed your level of skill. This project hit close to home. I have two pumps, an antique one like the one you restored and a new one. The simple solution you showed for being able to test it with a five-gallon bucket is great and something I need to remember come summer. Thank you.

These are still being made. New KZbin regulations block out any links that I post here but if you type "buy village pump" into your search engine you will find outlets that stock them.

If there's no piston inside, it's intended as a lawn ornament, nothing more. Our supplier decided to outsource these things, having them manufactured in China. They copied it all right, but they thought it needed a pump inside, so they inserted a cheap plastic syringe-type pump, so it could actually pump water. I laughed and laughed.

Depends on what the client asked for. Some people still want their antiques to look ‘vintage’ & request for minimal work to change the aesthetic of the piece but restore functionality.
