I think you will appreciate having the neighbors closer like here if you will encounter health problems etc. I guess you will also be allowed to still ride the gold card to the store and restaurants if you should lose drivers license. The other place is really remote.

Most CA public agencies elect not to contribute to Social Security, which halved my current benefits in half. When I worked in CA during the 80s and early 90s, they contributed to the alternative: CA PERS. I don't know if thats still the case.
