This is a "straszak" ("frightener"), a blank/starter, made in Poland before the war, and very popular. They were made in multiple variants, this one being the most common. Their manufacturer was - what a surprise - "Mubis", set up by two brothers already before the first war, and active until the outbreak of the second war. These little straszaks were, therefore, manufactured and sold all over Poland (and other countries as well; many thousands were sold, for instance, in the First Czechoslovak Republic) for over two decades. They were advertised constantly in "true detective" type of press, especially in "Tajny Detektyw", "Secret Detective" in the 30s - every issue of the magazine was filled with advertisements by various distributors of Mubis. They were most often advertised as "protective Browning, extremely loud, really ejects cartridges!". Of course, each distributor's advertisements categorically stated that only this particular model from this particular distributor was "original and genuine", and strongly warned prospective buyers against buying the "false" models, i.e. those sold by other distributors.
