Very nice road-trains. massive fuel tanks on the tractor units.

They are really impressive especially when overtaking one as they are up to 53 metres long on the highway. I am not sure exactly the fuel capacity but its probally around 2000 litres or so depending on the truck however I don't want to be paying to fill one up! I think they would be doing well to get 2km per litre on the highway.

some big mine leases have 7 trailers they restricted to the lease. not allowed on public roads.

I would guess that these monsters are only used for very long journeys,the Aussies are a humane people-how on earth do they feed and water the livestock during the trip?

You can't during the trips, cattle have to be spelled, off loaded at yards along the way :)

+jon johnson too easy to convert, 5 miles = 8 Km. Australia converted to metric in the early 70's and people winged and bitched, but now they wouldn't go back. Younger generations think how complex is the old system is and are so confused by it.

jon johnson Although Australia is a metric system country a lot of us still think in feet and inches, eg how tall are you? 6 foot, and TVs are still rated in inches.

Metric complicated compared to imperial?? Are you kidding me?? Everything divisible by 1, 10 or 100. For the record, 1 mile=1.61km, you can work out the rest.
